I appreciate there is a difference entering a station as staff or passenger, but one might also say a passenger entering an unstaffed station is at some similar risk about what they might encounter... To an extent yes. However as the member of staff who is coming to lock up and secure the station, all the trains will have gone. You therefore have the unenviable task of telling someone/ a group that they potentially can’t get home. These stations are in the suburbs, the last buses may have gone, and they may have no means of paying for a taxi. If that isn’t bad enough, some may have had a drink, others drugs, others with mental health issues. On the odd occasion, all three. As staff you’re far more likelier to get conflict than a fellow passenger. Like I say, you’re on your own, with no place of safety.

This is due partly to the night shift staff at neighbouring stations refusing to go and lock up stations at close of traffic. You're leaving your own station and then you’re walking into a neighbouring station on your own, with no place of safety and no idea what you’re going to encounter. You then have to go back and open it up. Some Staff just don’t feel safe or comfortable doing it.
The company provide you with a taxi to take you there and bring you back to your own station. The RMT rightly say that staff shouldn’t be doing it, as there is no risk assessment in place. As Jack says, these closures at 2230-2300 will only increase in the future, especially as staff goodwill is low or non existent at the minute.

I noticed Lambeth North has closed due to heat related issues. What could be the cause of this? Thanks The lift machine chamber was very hot, so the lifts failed.

I like the Paris metro take on strike days. Leave all barriers open, people can travel on whatever trains actually run for free. If TFL staff did that, they’d.be in breach of contract, and therefore be liable to be sacked.

AS, it was just for info purposes, not to explain why the place is locked up on strike days.

According to the emergency plans for the station, there is a minimum staffing level of one…but only when Leyton Orient are playing at home.
On the 6th, a driver inadvertently let off some passengers. Staff from Leytonstone had to come down to let them out. In the evening, the same thinghappened again, but this time, the passenger walked allong the track….

RMT station staff on the whole system will be on strike. 0001 to 2359. Got a message earlier. I feel an all grades strike would be better, but oh well. Also an overtime ban between the 3rd June and 10th July.
RMT are currently balloting staff on the mainline. There could be a co-ordinated strike.
