I thought it was Parsons Green. I worked in the depot office years ago, but the lamp post doesn't look right.

1881 and the London & Blackwell only existed in name only (until 1921) being absorbed into the Great Eastern Railway in 1862 which itself came from the Eastern Counties Railway.

All the stations Upney-Upminster Bridge were built and staffed by the LMS. I have the picture in Peter Kay's authoritative history of LT&SR and Hornchurch was the only station to have this sign. He writes that District or Underground were seemingly not mentionable even when an electric service was being advertised.
There is a map of Hornchurch showing an electrified siding west of the station between the District and LT&SR tracks to allow District line trains to reverse (never used) which also acted as a refuge siding for LMS goods trains. All taken out in the LT&SR resignalling of 1961.
Electrification came much later with 1500v dc overhead system (already becoming obsolete) in the late 50s although Fenchurch -Stratford had already been electrified to meet with the Eastern Region railways.

I was Chief Clerk there when the ticket office was rebuilt for the new ticketing system. The ticket office was in the forecourt in a portacabin and on the night the portacabin closed it was broken into and the safe stolen and dumped by the Ingerbourne river and cut into. I had to take the safe keys so the police could open an inner drawer of the safe. Happy days!!

I don't see how air conditioning can work on the underground with all the tunnel dust. Filters on other trains never seem robust enough.

Stratford was interesting in my day regards the ticket office. It was manned by British Rail staff but had Rapid Printers and Mini printers maintained by Underground fitters. The printing plates must have also been supplied by LT from possibly Ezra Road.
When LT took over Bromley By Bow to Upminster, excluding Barking and Upminster, we had nothing to do with BR infrastructure even after West Ham C2C platforms were re-instated.
In the ticket offices a number of BR staff transferred as Chief Clerks. The night foreman shifts between Upney and Upminster Bridge were retained as night working was very unusual on LT. Upminster depot had no night turn crews back in the day. The earliest book on was about 5.15am coinciding with the first BR train arriving from Southend.

There's far more latent demand for trains than anyone ever realises. The North London Line and West London Lines are prime examples. The St.Ives branch is another that springs to mind. St Ives has the park and ride at St Erth and there was talk of a five car 150 mash up to cater for demand on a half hour service. Four cars (2 units) have been running since 27 March.

This could be another GWR fiasco to rank alongside 769s. which failed to materialise meaning all the 165 3 cars going to Exeter to replace the 150s did not happen. 230 fast charge battery trains are not likely to be suitable on the Cornish/Devon branches because of short layover times; often only 5 minutes. Paignton has the longest layover times of 15/20 minutes which is often used up due to late running. I don't think people realise how busy Paignton, Exmouth, Barnstaple, Falmouth, and St Ives are. Newquay as well if they had a decent train service which might happen with the Cornish metro they have just received money for. They never expected the latent demand at Okehampton and the Parkway station in the middle of warehouses and housing is still to be built.

I think it went in 1967 as did the Romford-Upminster line crossing the District tracks to C2C as did a lot of goods yards on the C2C side such as Hornchurch and Upton Park.

Canary Wharf was entirely privately driven (was it Olympia and York) and made a success of the DLR on the Isle of Dogs The DLR in the Royal Docks completely failed to attract private developers to any large degree and has just been piecemeal over the last 35 years with plenty of land undeveloped. Does the cable car pay it's way? Still waiting for bridge over the river to replace the Woolwich Ferry. I have various plans that are 30 years old and went to a couple of exhibitions for it. I will say the A13 improvements did take place once started. Rathbone Market was rebuilt in the 60s to accommodate it but work never started to the 90s.

There will not be any railway extension to Chelmsford. There isn't the demand. 20 or was it 30 years ago the M12 was abandoned despite Charley Brown's roundabout having provision for it. Gallows Corner still awaiting upgrading and the "temporary" flyover removed.

Anyway Quiz question. What LT station issued return platform tickets the same price as a usual platform ticket? Earl's Court? Correct. People used the upper walkway at the station as a shortcut between Earls Court Road and Warwick Road. I don't know why they didn't use the side roads. Bad weather maybe? I don't know if I ever sold one when I occasionally worked there.

TfL are to scrap paper tickets by 2024, according to a MyLondon report. It's unclear whether its magnetic tickets that will stop being issued, with barcoded tickets issued instead, or paper tickets entirely abolished and the remaining tickets replaced by app based products. It also states that TfL platform tickets are to be abolished. I've been gone 20 years and I thought platform tickets had gone before I left. BR stations don't have them anymore not out on GWR where many stations are unmanned. Anyway Quiz question. What LT station issued return platform tickets the same price as a usual platform ticket?
