I'm interested if there's anyone here with experience of rolling stock maintenance who has seen the real life causes - what causes 'bubbling' under the lino of LU trains?

Ging back some years there was a peak-hour exit from the WB platform that came out at the northern end of Terminus Place. Cooking smell no doubt from adjacent cafe. Wow - I don't think I ever saw that. Where on the WB Circle & District platform was this exit, and where did it exit into Terminus Place?

I believe that one or more half trains were refitted with the same blue pattern flooring as the Victoria line trains, as forerunners of the refurbishment. Do these unit(s) still carry this or were they refitted again with maroon flooring?

Do the Class 345 trains have loading indicators, i.e. showing passengers the busyness of each carriage?

The 1972 stock units ('half trains') with wheelchair bays are always at the north end of the train and have new vertical handrails alongside each door in all three cars. I noticed today a unit at the south end that had new vertical handrails alongside each door in all four cars.

I travelled on the W&C line recently and saw a wheelchair bay, which felt like a bit of a sneak preview of what might appear on the central line. I noticed this too. I'm not a frequent user of the W&C line. I saw that the pair of bays on my W&C line train lacked any alarm / help point and were were not labelled as wheelchair bays, instead being labelled "Priority area for pushchairs". How new are these bays and are they in an interim state?

Has the modified train really manage to elude photographers for a month since it "entered service"?

If the TfL report is to be believed, I'm surprised that nobody has yet posted any photos of the modified Bakerloo Line train in service.

Could someone please tell me, what lines are currently operating a Night Tube / Night Overground service?
I am unsure if the TfL website reflects the current situation e.g. on its map.

The problem with the Waterloo and City is there's a ramp at Waterloo "Departures" platform but only stairs at "Arrivals". Bank has step free access from the new Walbrook entrance. I believe the Waterloo & City arrivals platform at Waterloo has a lift - a newish one if I remember correctly: www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/waterloo_lift

Am I correct that London Councils pay for the 'core' of the Older Person's Freedom Pass concession? Do the forthcoming changes affect what London Councils pay for, or do the changes only affect 'add-on' elements of the concession paid for by TfL?

Genuine concern rightly being brought to attention by the RMT. You simply can't expect fleets like the 1972, 73 and 92 stocks (which have already had their operational service prolonged by upwards of a decade) to provide the full service under such a watered down maintenance proposals. The Piccadilly has struggled to put out a full service under the current regime in recent years so I dread to think what would happen if the period between inspections were to increase any further. I couldn't tell from this thread or the article below on the RMT website, does LU propose to extend inspection frequencies on all types of trains, or just to the more modern train types like the S Stock which probably have more self-diagnosis features and require less maintenance? www.rmt.org.uk/news/key-london-underground-maintenance-staff-vote-to-strike/

I wanted to download the "Continuing Your Journey" local street and bus map for my nearest London Underground station. Is this possible?
If I recall correctly these used to be available to download as a PDF file via an 'interactive map' feature on the TfL webpage, possibly the same page that gave first and last train times. Where can I find these naps now? Thanks

As I believe I have posted earlier some stations have achieved the milestone of having the civil construction contractor demobilised - Farringdon, Woolwich and Custom House. Others will follow over the next few A lot was said at the GLA Transport Committee about the lack of dynamic testing opportunities for train-borne systems on the Bombardier Class 345 trains. While construction work continues in Crossrail's core tunnel stations, is train testing able to take place on the southeast branch?

There's also a question of where do you put the carriages that aren't being used (it's not like they can propel themselves around if they're in the way like a spare unit can) and also who is gonna pay for all the work? Shhh, or threads will start about which London Overground lines could handle 6-car trains, followed by points about whether Electrostar software allows 6-car units, counterpoints about how they could be configured as two units, and suggestions of temporary swaps with other TOCs... ;-)

So glad that the next generation of tube stock won’t be built by Bombardier. This fiasco and the severe problems with the class 345 introduction vindicate the decision not to award them the contract, I made this statement once, and got a telling off haha. Apparently you are only allowed to make a decision on tendering based on the actual bid. I think that if Bombardier's tender had a section about their capability to introduce new trains into service, you would be totally within your rights to take into account the Class 345 experience when scoring that section of Bombardier's bid. If a (hypothetical) supplier said their capability was amazing but you knew it wasn't, you would score the tender based on facts not marketing fiction.

I apologise for lowering the tone of the forum by referencing the Daily Mail! www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6477255/All-aboard-Mayor-Khans-gravy-train.htmlI'm not surprised that "63 Transport for London staffers last year took home more than £200,000", because it's a big organisation and if some of the transport modes were split off into standalone companies, these would be substantial in themselves. What I am struggling to comprehend is: So this is the mean average. I'm puzzled about why the organisation doesn't seem to have large ranks of staff in lower grades, earning £30k, £40k, or even £50k or £60k, which would result in a lower average than £83k. Is there something I'm misunderstanding about this average?

Will it be possible for passengers to walk from Barbican Station to Crossrail's Farringdon Station, without leaving the stations? I can't remember whether this is, or ever was, part of Crossrail's proposals.

I hear TfL are considering mass bike hire as a substitute if there end up being no trains for GOB! That will be fine for the sections with concrete slab track, but hard work on the sections with sleepers and ballast! ;-) It's disappointing that TfL is allowing this information vacuum. It feels like TfL's communications team isn't able to handle anything that isn't a good news story. In my opinion TfL should tell the public the basic facts about the 710 introduction and the 172 lease situation, including saying that some things are out of their control. Answers to FAQs would be valuable, such as 'Could the new trains be introduced with guards until the software is fixed?' and 'Why can't spare trains from elsewhere such as TfL Rail be used?'.

The lift to the westbound District and Circle platform was in service when I was at Victoria last Thursday, as were lifts from the National Rail station to the main LU ticket hall. However the lift to the eastbound District and Circle line platform was not yet in service. I have not visited since to see if it is now in service.

I'm not sure the Shenfield branch will be able to get its final frequency until December next year as I can't see 24 tph being able to reverse at Paddington because as far as I'm aware there is no crossover, just two turnback sidings. Most of the reputable sources seem to indicate a maximum of 12tph reversing via the sidings at Paddington in the peak stepped down slightly to 10tph in the off peak. A ten and twelve min layover seems reasonable enough. There are two diamond crossovers both west of the platforms at Paddington which would favour ‘out and back working’ in the Westbound direction mostly. From opentraintimes showing the sidings and the through lines marked by ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System) block markers XR010/011/012/017/018. Thanks for the diagram. Are those two reversing sidings underneath or alongside the new deck at Westbourne Park Bus Garage?
