Will the 5 car trains be a new sub-class of the 378s in the same way the 4 cars became 378/2s from the 3 car 378/0s?

What's going to happen at platform 2 at Highbury & Islington. I was there today and noticed a new stopping board, presumably for the 5 car 378 which is tantalisingly close to the overhead wires. Presumably they're going to have to extend the 3rd rail to reach this stopping point, but surely they can now stretch to extending it far enough to finally reach the OHLE?

Is platform 2 (I think it is) at Highbury & Islington currently long enough for 5 cars or are they going to have to use the full length of the platform and therefore complete the small section on unelectrified track?

I travelled on LO for the first time in ages last night (having moved to the coast recently), and while squashed in to a packed train two questions entered my mind which I'm sure someone on here will have the answers to: 1. Why do the platform assistants use megaphones to tell passengers to let people off first, move inside the car, etc? With all the noise from people getting on/off, the onboard PA system, etc, it's impossible to hear them. Why don't they use the station PA system as on LU, or don't they have them (or are they just no use?!). For avoidance of doubt, Gospel Oak, Highbury and Islington and Dalston Junction spring to mind. 2. I was on 378232, which for some reason I thought was always on the ELL. That got me thinking, are there any units that only work the ELL or NLL/DC (378/1s excluded obviously)? Or are they regularly interchanged (possibly to keep the AC side of things in working order?)? Just random, pointless thoughts on a slow and uneventful journey...

While travelling to Stratford today and sitting at the front, I noticed a sign on top of the S stopping card at Caledonian Road & Barnsbury that kind of went 3<2<1--1>2>3. Never seen a sign like that before. What does it mean?

While in Parliament Hill today, I saw a FGW 180 passing through Gospel Oak about 15:55. Why would this be?

On leaving the big Morrisons in Chalk Farm yesterday (Saturday), I noticed a 378 parked up on the lines that run adjacent to it in the direction of Primrose Hill.
I've noticed London Midland and Virgin trains there before, but was wondering if there was some reason why it might have stopped there, or if this was just a usual occurence?! It was at 6.50pm if that makes any difference or is any use.

Hope you don't mind me asking a few quick questions about the ELL, given I travelled on it for only the second time today and got to thinking about a few things.
1) How many trains are needed to run the service? It's 12tph I think (?) and they have 20 378/1s, plus the 378/2s (225+) to choose from?
2) Have any of the old 378/0s ever ran in passenger service on the ELL. I know they can do as they're dual voltage. If not, are they ever likely to?
3) Is platform 2 at Dalston Junction ever used? The few times I've passed by, it's always empty with the train to New Cross sitting in platform 3. I assume once the Clapham Junction service starts, they'll do like they've done at H&I and have one platform going to one destination and the other going to the other destination?
Danke.

I really like them. Some people whinge about hard seats but I don't really notice them. They're bright, open, spacious, and in the summer, the air conditioning is AMAZING!
So much better than the cramped, uncomfortable 313s they replaced.

What was the thinking behind having a 10-15m gap between DC and AC power at the end of platform 2? I assume there is a plan at some point to fill this gap by extending either the 3rd rail or the OHLE so that trains can run through onto the NLL?

So that means 231-234 are all going to be used for ELL services?! Will they ever be swapped with other 378/2s, possibly to get some AC running under their belt?

Presumably that means it's likely to spend its days on the ELL like 232 and 233.

How long, roughly, then from Ashford to in passenger service?

Couple of questions. Whereabouts is 378234? I don't think I've ever seen it on the NLL. Wikipedia (which is clearly out of date) says 232 and 233 are on the ELL which is correct, so is 234 also on there? Secondly, any idea when 378255-257 are due to be completed and delivered? 234 has not entered traffic. It returned to Derby from Ashford last October and is still at Litchurch Lane, where it has been sighted reliably by various people. Reports elsewhere suggest that 378255-257 will appear after NXEA's Class 379s are completed - so that should be in the next couple of months given progress thus far on the 379s. Why has 234 been at Derby since October and not made it to Willesden? Was it used for helping convert the 378/0s to 378/2s or something?

First week of the new timetable, and while it's great to be able to turn up and know a train is due within a few minutes, it does seem that trains are struggling to keep to their timetable, especially in the morning peak. I think every day this week I've got to Gospel Oak and the 07:04 has arrived at 07:06 or 07:15 on one day, with following trains also delayed by a minute or two. Perhaps this is due to freight trains fitting in?

Just picked up a timetable for the the new timetable changes on Monday and it seems the Willesden to Gospel Oak early service is now a Camden Road to Stratford service, with a Willesden to Richmond early service in the other direction.
Will be interesting to see how the new timetable gets on on Monday. Certainly makes my life easier in not having to rush to catch the 07:07 train from Gospel Oak when there's one at 07:11 that'll mean I still make my connection at Stratford. It'll also be nice to get into Stratford from a NXEA train without a LO train just about to leave!

I was on Train 12 today (I think), and noticed that the maps in the carriages (the ones in between the ads) were showing the ELL as under construction. How old must those maps be? The ELL has been open since about April last year hasn't it? Surely they must be due an update. Is it the same on all the 09 stocks?

Pretty sure 033 is with 071 unless they swapped em? My mistake. I got on the front end so only saw the numbers of the rear end from a distance and knew it had a 7 in it!

Managed to get on 3033 + 3176 today but complete luck as it was the first train to pull in to Kings Cross this morning! Wasn't so lucky on the way back and caught Train 5 (i think) instead.

Was driving home from work today and passed my local station Kentish Town at about 5.20pm, with the Emergency Response Unit outside the station with it's lights on. Does anyone know what happened that necessitated the ERU?! People were still coming out of the station so I'm guessing it can't have been too serious.

While en route to the Eye for the NYE fireworks last night, I got to wondering about the points just before Charing Cross. Are these used at any time, as I don't remember ever seeing trains terminate at Charing Cross. On a separate subject, just wanted to say thanks to the T/O who got me home last night. Not sure if it was an instruction, but he drove it sensibly, slowing right down as we came into the very busy stations, and even had to stop suddenly halfway into Warren St because of some drunk idiotic Italians, which in a packed train was interesting! All in all, got everyone home safely, cheers!

I'm thinking particularly of 202 and 232-234, acknowledging that 202 has been working on the DC Lines but has it yet been out to play on the NLL/WLL? 202 has definitely been on the NLL.

Went past Northfields for the first time today, so this may be a stupid question, but there was two carriages of a train covered with a sheet outside the depot, with what looked like part of the rest of the train on another part of the depot.
What happened to this train?
