It seems that there was also Network SouthEast branding with the station name on the tunnel wall on the far side of the tracks Images from the northbound and southbound platforms at Essex Road, this was the last station to have them. The other stations had First line diagrams.

According to Art on the Underground, the new Tube Map will be arriving in stations from 10 December. I wonder what the new designs will be like... 🤔🤔

I hope it is; once the press has stopped caring about the new trains GN can (hopefully) strip them to show the NSE signage.

I don't really see the point of just putting what I presume is a vinyl sticker over the existing NSE signage. I understand that it's "good" PR that they've supposedly refreshed the look of the station but this is a much loved part of the Northern City line, and one of its most distinctive features. I personally quite liked the signage and IMO it still serves its purpose. None of it was damaged so why replace it? I'm going to take a wild guess and say the new signage is in Helvetica rather than Rail Alphabet

Internal TfL fares advice says PAYG Oyster on Heathrow Express was available from 22 November. Would this potentially mean that users with Zip Cards can use the HEX free of charge?

..Does anyone know why they didn't put the yellow front on them (seeing as the mainline ones have the same marker lights and have kept the yellow). I suppose it's the design choice of GN, if I'm not mistaken the headlights meet the requirements for stock without yellow ends.

...The real question to ask is why the reliability of the 172s has seemingly fallen off a cliff since Arriva took over? In effect someone is gaming the performance regime in that they've decided to save on operating costs and dump the problem on passengers who have delayed and overcrowded journeys and Arriva who take the financial hit for cancellations (assuming they've not been granted a waiver on this!).... They'll probably introduce it on Christmas Day..... "Peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled." We hope. 🤞🤞

Interesting. Subjectively as a passenger I'd put the Northern in third place after the Bakerloo and then Central. Having driven on all 3, I'd go with order of Bakerloo, Northern, central From my passenger's point of view, I'd say the same.

I doubt the passengers would find the Central line too hot today

Having found one today at Canada Water, I initially thought that it looked quite nice in the new livery. However, when I got off the train at Highbury & Islington it looked absolutely awful. I think it's to do with perspective and light levels. I'm also not a big fan of the new moquette.

It might have been interesting to experiment and see what happens when an Oyster card with a negative balance is presented at a ticket gate that will, during the touch-in process, process a refund and increase the value stored in the e-purse back to positive territory. This is exactly what happens on both the ticket gates or standalone "we trust you" Oyster readers at the nominated station. I once received a £3.10 refund whilst my Oyster balance was -£0.15 and upon touching in, my balance increased to £2.95 - more than enough for the off-peak cap on my photocard.

...I had to laugh at 1.20 ish when asked if it was AC or DC xD AC batteries are not possible... A while back, whilst doing some work for Electronics, someone asked whether batteries could be AC or DC. He got an hour detention and a fairly long rant on the concept of batteries and how different they are from the supply. 😂

Wont make cab more secure, these are easily 'bypassed' But they must make it that little bit harder to break in.

Strangely the start up noise reminds me of an original Routemaster bus being fired up, however once the diesel engines are running, the diesel noise is pretty much drowned out by the traction motor noise. I was hoping that the traction motors would sound more like the D Stock. But it's a good start, and a much better alternative to the D78s all going for scrap.

..these new announcements only feature on the B07 units, and not on the B90s/B2ks/B92s... Went on a few B90s etc. the other day and the announcements were on all of them. Although I think the system might be bugged on some trains as during one journey from Bank to Greenwich the train was announcing it at all the Stations along the way...

I quite like the miniature roundels incorporated into the tiles at the Eastern end of the Central line. I would definitely recommend going to Gants Hill. It's absolutely lovely.

Aren't the 'arrow boards' listed, I presume that it's the existing LED installations that will be upgraded. Quite possible for the old ones to stay in place, not working after new ones are provided. Such a shame if they did switch them off they have a sort of charm to them that I like. But progress is progress, and I'd assume that the 4LM doesn't like the idea of setting of lights, instead of sending text (although they could create a small circuit program that interprets the data and then sets off an output that will turn the lights on, but I'm not the one designing these things)

....Also, should the non occupied cab be locked? I seem to remember spsmiller saying that when he was younger they were allowed into the back cab on the Met in the morning commute. I can't find it anymore but when did this stop being allowed? ..I believe there is also recently a video someone took when they occupied the rear cab on the Bakerloo line after it had been left insecure. So both cabs, yes.. I agree with that. Whilst I was on my Work Experience, one morning I saw two people (who obviously weren't LUL staff) getting into back cab (facing Stratford) of the 1996 Stock, luckily someone shouted at them to get out of there. I despise it when people who have absolutely no business to be in staff only areas of the railway just enter these areas, I'm assuming that some of them think that they can do anything just because "I pay my taxes/tickets" - although I'm sure that most customers passengers don't have this attitude. All cabs, regardless of whether they're being used or not, should be locked IMO. It may be apparently fun for those doing it, but I doubt the staff will find it as amusing. I'd class it as trespassing on the railway, and should be dealt with as such. I also think it's a good idea for the "You vs Train" campaign to be extended to include LUL as well. In terms of locking the door, I'd suggest some sort of specially designed magnetic key that T/Ops have which they "tap" onto the train before opening the cab door. If this little magnetic key isn't tapped on the train, then whatever device is interacted with to open the cab door is deactivated. It would probably be better if this was bespoke and, if possible, made in-house with the specifications as safely guarded as the Johnston font is "Please don't assault our staff", management says. But what are they doing to prevent this from happening? Alcohol is prohibited on the Underground, but this isn't always necessarily enforced. People aren't always in their best states when drunk, and may do things that they wouldn't do whilst sober, so could the rules possibly be extended to include drunk people too? If they weren't allowed to even enter the system, maybe drunken assaults could be avoided. But then the problem arises of where they will go. I'm sure that bus drivers, especially those on the Night Bus, won't be very keen with allowing more drunk people onto their buses. There should be some more preventative measures put in place by management so that their "plea" is fulfilled. Then again, as always, I'm saying this from a "lay man" enthusiast's point of view. Quite a lot of the posts previously made in this thread were from experienced staff members' point of view. As such, I may have some misunderstandings about the issue and I'm always happy to be corrected (sorry for the long post as well )

Originally yes but TfL changed their minds and all 710s will be longitudinal. Oh come on! The S8 have a mixture of both longitudinal and traverse seating and, in all the times I've been on the Met during the peaks, it's never posed a problem - in my eyes anyway. Maybe it's because I usually go on it during my holidays when everyone's on their day off!

I have finished my Work Experience with T fL at Endeavour Square, and it was an absolute blast! To be honest, that was probably mainly because of the two other people I was with - I can imagine how boring it would be if it was just me on my own. Within the space of only five days, we sorted out the inventory; sorted out old minutes of meetings etc (there was one about the design of the 1996 Stock!); did some CAD and all in all had an excellent week, all rounded off by a cab ride and visit to Northumberland Park and Osborne House. I had an insight into how the Victoria line operates during "quiet" times and during not so quiet times. An experience I will certainly never forget. Highly recommend it. (It turns out that just wearing a shirt and dark jeans is fine. Nothing to worry about! ) And that, as they say, is that!
