I would be inclined to produce a 'Tourist's Map', using the basic 'central area' of the Underground, with major tourist destinations added, using information gleaned from visitor-number statistics, or what the retailers call 'footfall'. The idea would be be to get visitors to their chosen destination with minimum effort. Do you really need to know that trains to Amersham are available from Tussauds?

...and for good reason. The map is hideously overcrowded. A tube map, or underground-only map might help, but I wonder if a 'primary routes' map for London tourists could help. It might contain simple routes only, irrespective of 'mode'.

Combined rail/air tickets could have been offered, to serve the destinations that the truncated route will now not serve.

Thirty-five peak trains cancelled in one day.
It beggars belief!

Propelling a train; that is, having the loco at the back, pushing, isn't as safe as hauling from the front. Anyone who had a Hornby set will confirm!
In order to save operating costs, it was decided to allow 'push-pull' working at express speeds, providing stringent standards of train and track were maintained.
Certain junctions do not meet the requirements, and so propelling at these points is not authorised.

Must be the best-presented departmental stock ever seen. I hope that plans are already in existence to recover a heritage 1960s-era train from this rake when its autumn days are done.

It looks like every attempt to ease congestion simply creates more traffic.

Ideally, the MET needs to be in a position to COMPETE with the Chilterns. At the moment, it lags behind in both timings and on-train facilities.

The control trailers were driven from open platforms so whilst they were in tunnel much of the time it can’t have been much fun for the motorman! Driving from the 'uncoupling' end would have been the highlight of my day. The first thing I thought when I saw the well-known illustration was 'WOW! I want to do that'. There again, as a kid I wanted to be that bloke who drove new bus chassis up the A1 to Northern Coachworks.

Nice to see the work taking place in-house, but I'm not so sure about Acton Depot opening two years ago...

You could make the headwall removable. It would be a shame not to be able to photograph that atmospheric view.

Efficiency aside, the 'fixed' battery will be fine on charging, but deteriorate rapidly with each fast discharge.
Presumably this will only be for the trial period, after which a proper DC supply will be provided.

Also, “we are being held by the signalling system” is more 'inclusive'.

Looks like the cash crisis at TfL is over at last.
From barely able to afford vital stock renewals to buying-in new stations. Splendid performance all round!

I never understood why a red livery was chosen in the first place. To match the buses. Someone probably lumped it in with 'public transport'.
