Also is it just me or do the trains now have speakers on the outside or something since the announcements are so clear when the doors are closed. I know in Chicago there actually are external speakers. The new cl777 got Merseyrail have what's described as an "External PA", intended for warning passengers to stand back from the train and the like.

A former partner worked in road design. Everything was done in Metric, but the distances along the road was referred to as "chainage" eg "the structure is located at chainage 45.65km".

Advertising a product for sale at a cheaper price than what is subsequently offered is false advertising. Retailers are required to have a system in place to prevent this, for my employer this is a weekly price check done at the same time as checking the expiry dates of products.
We are now drifting significantly off topic though folks

Just to perhaps finish the legal tender discussion (which we've identified isn't really relevant here) some little stories I've heard:
•The only legal tender in Scotland is the Bank of England £1 note.
•Someone dissatisfied with a parking fine once tried to pay in bagged copper coins, the court refused to accept it, as they are only legal tender for amounts under 20p. Said person went away, and then returned with unbagged £1 coins.
•Whilst shops don't have to accept legal tender for purchases, neither do they have to sell you a produce at the price listed on the shelf. The "invitation to treat" is when the sale is rung through the till and that is when a customer gains the right to buy; it is however false advertising.

The original plan was to have a normal railway throughout; for the use of normal trains. Which would not have worked with platform edge doors. I get that door-spacing cannot be universal, but why could we not have standard height platforms with Platform Edge Doors (PEDs) which would allow other trains to use the infrastructure?

This is all getting a little political; Chris M has given a good balanced precÃs. I suggest that those who wish to dig deeper into the root causes of the closures think carefully before posting.

We've given this a similar amount of time as you would usually get, whilst it may have a hint of Blackhorse Road that's the opposite corner of the map than where need to be. See if this helps: (click/tap image for a larger version)

When undertaking a brake test as a Guard, assisting T/Op or T/Op I always understood that you shouldn’t discharge the trainline fully but heavily reduce and wait until the pressure remains steady after reducing. Why did they not discharge the trainline to zero? Was it merely to save time when recharging it, or were there other reasons? Decreasing but not emptying makes the process quicker, but also when the brake controller is in 'lap' it should neither charge nor discharge the brake pipe - dropping it to a point makes it easier to see if it is either rising or falling when it should actually be steady.

Oh this is very much one for the pedants'.
Perhaps the double arrow on the map actually represents "National Rail Interchange for a service not shown on the map". In this case it need to go from the examples listed above.

Something that has been missed is that Seven Sisters and Edmonton Green no longer have interchange with National Rail as Greater Anglia stopped serving there from Today. London Overground is a National Rail operator though, even though it likes to pretend it's not.

They currently have until 22.00 the night before. Have been using that notice period for years Network Rail can't, it's the operators that can cancel this late and not be penalised. A practice that is (AUIU) currently being frowned upon by ORR.

GB generally is possibly even a minority in having only red / yellow / green white lamp colours, quite a lot have one more, blue or purple or some shade in between blue and purple. Blue has been used in Britain on the mainline network for a little while now, RETB areas use a flashing blue to indicate that the TPWS loops are de-energised.

Is B between Golders Green & Hampstead? Nope, the trains on this line wouldn't fit in those tunnels! Does this help? (click/tap for a larger version) A has a strong Ruislip end of the central line feel… is the link to do with depots? Wrong line, but at least this time the trains are more likely to fit. The link is unrelated to depots. A Between 0akwood and Cockfosters Now we are getting closer, but not there yet. Try this: (click/tap for a larger version)

Good morning Quizzers! trainwizard The photos were working for me at about 2am and are working for me now, so any issues were temporary and/or at your end. Pictures were also not working for me this AM on this and other quiz posts. I briefly looked in earlier and saw the images weren't working, I wasn going to message Chris M, but I got distracted by a wolf from the moon (seriously). They're all back up now, must have been an issue with the quiz server which (IIRC) is provided for free.
