+1 for Gants Hill and I think the link is that the initials spell the word "GHOUL" or "GHOULS".... so perhaps Oval for B, Upminster for C and somewhere L or LS for D?

At Paddington the train then stopped short (at least half a coach length) and we had to await permission to draw forward to the correct spot on the platform (which took at least another five minutes). Presumably this was for the driver to correctly dock the train manually. I've experienced this a few times at Paddington now - train pulls in slowly and stops, doesn't align with doors (sometimes this could be a half coach length, other times seemingly substantially more), waits, announcement made, train edges forward slowly and stops, doesn't align with doors, repeat accordingly until doors aligned. Sometimes a 2 minute job, sometimes a 5 minute job. Would also be interested to understand exactly why this occurs.

I'm assuming then that the link is off limits to those of us who don't know other members and their lives? At least I can stop trying to work out an LU related PK connection now!

I think you were nearly there bigvern - the Summer Solstice must be the reason for the link/stencils, as the stencils direct you to spell it out:
A (2) SOuthfields B (1,1) Liverpool Street C (1) Taplow D (1) Eastcote
Spells SOLST__E
Hence missing station is ICkenham (two) to complete the set.

A bit of a long shot given that I have no idea on the two remaining locations, but could the link be that these are all stations one stop away from Stratford?

I don't know about anyone else, but this map feels like it has far too much on it - a far cry from Beck's original diagram which was supposed to be easy to read. I agree - this map is just a monstrosity. We surely have reached the point now where the pocket tube map has outlived its usefulness in its current form? Beck created the simplistic design to make life easier for the user - I doubt anyone can honestly say that the current incarnation is easy to use.

A slightly strange scenario on Saturday - it seems that the District was running Upminster to Whitechapel shuttles, and the H&C running Hammersmith to Whitechapel. With the track layout around the Whitechapel area, this resulted in all Eastbound departures (i.e. District Line) departing from the Westbound platform, and all Westbound departures (i.e. H&C Line) departing from the Eastbound!

All are served by the District line except Loughton? I'm not sure that Hammersmith (H&C) is served by the District Line...! Could Loughton be the odd one out though as it is the only one not served by more than 1 TfL service? Richmond - District Line + LO Ealing Common - District + Piccadilly Lines Hammersmith (H&C) - Hammersmith + Circle Lines

According to the Sectional Appendix, Platform 1 at Barking is 183m long, so should comfortably hold an 8-car Cl.710 (approx 165m).
