Hello everyone! Apologies for the rather short notice confirmation of this year’s Forum Social, but it is going ahead!
We haven’t been able to arrange a pre-social activity this year unfortunately, but, as usual, we will be meeting in the Penderel’s Oak, a short walk from Holborn station.
We’ll hopefully be able to get a table booked, but otherwise there should be people there from at least 1300 onwards.
Can’t wait to see everyone!

With apologies for the late notice, we are pleased to confirm details of tomorrow's Forum Christmas Social:
Our morning activity is to seek out one of the new Crossrail class 345 units and take a ride along the TfL Rail line. We'll be meeting at Liverpool Street mainline station, adjacent the TfL Rail platforms/Costa Coffee kiosk at 1030, before heading east to try and intercept one of the units.
Afterwards, we will be heading to The Penderel's Oak, nearby Holborn station, for around 1400 - members who do not wish to come on the morning excursion are welcome to meet us there.
The Forum Phone will be available from 0900 in case anyone has any difficulties - 07713 681272.

The forum staff are pleased to announce that our proposed morning activity has been given the go-ahead. We are extremely pleased to be able to invite members to a unique, behind-the-scenes tour of a working and operational station. However because we are so lucky we are taking a (hopefully understandably) cautious approach. Unfortunately, by the nature of what we have planned, the number of people able to take part is restricted. If you wish to take part you need to: - Be able to rendezvous at a station along the northern edge of the Circle line at 1100 on 10 December 2016.
- Be physically able, this means able to walk over some uneven surfaces and climb stairs; able to bend and/or stoop.
- Be over 18 (under 18s are welcome at Penderel's Oak afterwards, as per usual)
- Have good eyesight, such that you are able to see in reduced light levels.
- Be happy in confined/enclosed spaces, potentially with dust (asthmatics, be aware). If you're not happy in a smallish lift, you may struggle.
- Wear clothes that you don't mind potentially getting a little grubby.
- Understand that all participation is entirely at your own risk.
Please don't be put off by any of the above, we're not taking you on the Via Ferrata or anything like that - we just need to make sure that we allocate places to those who are able to take part. If all of this hasn't put you off then please send an expression of interest, your full name and a contact e-mail address by PM to rincew1nd before 2359 on 30th November 2016. Do bear in mind that expressing an interest does not guarantee participation. It is anticipated that we will be in touch with those who have shown an interest over the weekend of 3rd/4th December, either giving them the good news or the not so good. Those lucky ones will be given a precise meeting location and more information about the event. Once chosen you will have to be happy to agree to some other minor restrictions which should not be too difficult - no alcohol before 11am, for example. For those not taking part in the morning excursion, then we shall gather from 1300 in the Penderel's Oak. Details of a 'forum phone' will be circulated nearer the date, or just look for the custard!

Members,
Acton Depot are holding their Spring open weekend on 23 and 24 April.
Forum tradition dictates that the Saturday is one of our regular meets.
The meet starts around 2.30pm at the Red Lion and Pineapple at 281 High Street, Acton. This allows plenty of time for members to enjoy the depot (opening at 11am) at their leisure then make the short walk up the road to the pub.
New members are particularly welcome and can be assured that 'the usual suspects' will take you under their wing, if need be.
There will of course be a forum meet phone for people to contact each other, details of which will follow at a later time.
Any members under 18: we do ask that you carry emergency contact details with you, have parental consent (or even better, bring them along too) and some form of identity. For parents peace of mind, those working within the transport industry are CRB/DBS checked.
Any other thoughts and suggestions are welcome, and a rough idea of who will be attending is always helpful too.

The staff are still arranging the final details, but this year there will be a red theme.
It is anticipated that our usual format will be followed of a train trip in the morning followed by drinks at a hostelry.
Further details will be posted in this thread, but members are free to share their plans in the above linked thread.

My father, who was the guard on the very first 'C' stock diagram in passenger service back in 1970, was welcomed by prjb and the team at Moorgate to join the tour. I've written to prjb separately but wanted to make my thanks public to him and the tour team on here. Dad had a fantastic time, received VIP treatment and made at every turn to feel a part of the day. I really am very grateful to prjb and all concerned for making an old railwayman feel part of the family again. Thank you all so very much. THC That wasn't the fellow who now lives between Derby and Nottingham was it? The person I was with and I spent a lot of the day talking to him about his memories and we both enjoyed talking to him greatly.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
The date for the Christmas meet has been set as Saturday 14th December 2013.
The Forum Staff are still working on the finer detail, however it is likely to follow our traditional format of a ride on the UndergrounD followed by a social period over beverages at a family friendly public house in central London. All members of the forum are welcome to attend, however we do ask that those under 18 years of age carry emergency contact details and inform their folks at home of their whereabouts - even better, bring them along too.
Full details of time and location will be communicated in due course.
We look forward to seeing you there,
The Forum Staff.

Apologies for the late posting.
On Saturday 13th (and Sunday 14th) April, Acton Depot is holding one of their open weekends.
Forum tradition dictates that the Saturday is one of our regular meets.
For the benefit of members, new and old, we usually meet up for 11am at the depot entrance to introduce ourselves/catch up on gossip and spend a good few hours enjoying all the attractions the depot has to offer. At around 2.30pm we take a short walk up the road to the Red Lion and Pineapple for refreshments and a social. The pub is at 281 High Street, Acton. The pub has been used on previous occasions, and is perfect for good food, drinks and also to allow our younger members to join up as it's child friendly.
New members are particularly welcome and can be assured that 'the usual suspects' will take you under their wing, if need be.
There will of course be a forum meet phone for people to contact each other, details of which will follow at a later time.
Any other thoughts and suggestions are welcome, and a rough idea of who will be attending is always helpful too.
