A Special Trains Notice (STN) has been issued for the movement of the last complete 4-car train of A stock (unit 5234) from Neasden Depot to Ealing Common Depot later this month. 7.1 (Unusual Train Movements) This forum does not actively encourage the posting of the timings for unusual train movements for the following reasons: - (7.1a) The information is usually available only within documents marked 'for internal use only'
- (7.1b) The timings can never be guaranteed - in fact these sort of movements often don't happen at the times published, if at all
- (7.1c) Making the details of such movements public could cause issues with unplanned overcrowding at stations or other locations
Whilst some members may dearly wish to observe the final run of this iconic, transformational stock - for the reasons given in the rule we would ask that members refrain from posting details of the STN. Forum staff will have no hesitation in removing any posts they feel are inappropriate.

The following information explains the procedure that we follow when admitting new members to the forum. It may also be of interest to existing members as there is information at the end on the data we hold and when this is deleted. This thread will remain locked but any member has any questions regarding any of the information here, please contact a member of the Administration Team in the first instance.
Applications to Join District Dave’s Forum
District Dave’s is the premier online forum relating to the London Underground and its associated infrastructure. We have approximately 1000 members, many of whom have been members for a decade or more and/or have connections with London Underground or the wider railway family. This means that, as a community, we are lucky to have an unparalleled pool and depth of knowledge among our ranks.
We actively encourage new members, from those with little experience who would like to broaden their knowledge, right up to railway professionals who may know more about specific roles than just about anyone else in their field.
The volunteers who staff the forum want District Dave’s to continue being a positive, respectful and welcoming place and in consequence, do not operate an ‘open’ joining process where anyone can automatically become a member without checks. With having some members under the age of 18 we must also be mindful of safeguarding issues and do our upmost to ensure the forum is a safe environment for everyone.
Non-members are free to read the forum but will not be able to post. In order to do so, applicants must apply to the forum through ProBoards (the software company who host the Forum) registration page, available using the Register link on our homepage. If you have one you are welcome to use an existing Proboards account that you have used to register with another forum also hosted by Proboards.
To be a member on any ProBoards-hosted forum you must agree to their general Terms of Service which includes being at least 13 years old and that you will not post objectionable content.
Specifically related to District Dave’s forum where a member of staff feels it is needed and justified, we may require some additional information from a new member, for example if an account has a suspicious username or if we have doubts about the reason for application. We are acutely aware that we have a responsibility both to our existing members and also to London Underground to minimise the risk of inappropriate online behaviour. However, we are fully aware that we also need to strike a reasonable balance between knowing a little about a person and that person’s right to online privacy. While we try to make our requests as brief as possible, thanks to our vigilance and background checks over the years, we have successfully kept out various people who later turned out to have had nefarious motives.
Those applying to become a member have an opportunity within a text box as part of the registration process to say something about their interest in London Underground and their reasons for wanting to become a member. This often expedites the process of joining. It is important to note that this information is only ever seen by Forum Staff and never shared with any third parties.
If the Forum Staff consider the detail provided on the initial application to be sufficient, we will then accept you and email some welcome information alongside the standard ProBoards welcome.
Should we feel we still need further details we’ll email you directly asking for it, then wait approximately seven days for your response after which the application will be deleted if nothing is forthcoming.
We will always contact you using the email address provided - if you haven’t appeared to have received anything in this seven-day period, please check your spam folder.
Please note that all newly accepted accounts can be deleted without warning by an Administrator within the first three months if they feel that any unacceptable behaviour or postings have, or are likely to, take place.
Your data Upon application Proboards provides us with:
- The email address that you applied with (so we can contact you)
- Your chosen username
- The date of application
- The IP address used to register
During the annual purge of dormant members, in line with GDPR regulations, all information associated with deleted members is also deleted.
Forum staff are not ordinarily informed of members who self-delete. If you wish for your data to be deleted upon self-deletion, please contact a member of staff by PM before terminating your account and we will action this.
If we have serious concerns, for example as a safeguarding issue about any member, we may keep this data for a reasonable amount of time after the account has been deleted in case it is needed elsewhere. Once Forum Administrators are satisfied that it is no longer needed, this data will also be deleted.
We hope that the above information is clear and that you enjoy being a member of District Dave’s Forum.

Members should be aware that a convicted paedophile recently applied to join the forum. Membership of the forum has always been ‘closed’ in that any application has to be approved by a member of staff before anyone can post. Part of this process is to have some sort of internet trail: while we do not wish to pry into people’s lives nor collect unnecessary information, equally we have a responsibility to other members and also to London Underground to make the Forum a safe, friendly and responsible place. We do not want people who cause trouble or other undesirables trying to find out information which would not normally be in the public domain. Over the years we have had everything from graffiti artists to people with exceedingly sinister motives applying to be on the forum and we hope that, by and large, we have been successful at keeping these people away. Additionally, forum staff are all aware of safeguarding issues: many work, or have worked, in the transport industry and are DBS checked, others work in areas such as education and the healthcare industry where the safeguarding training they both receive and give to others, is to a very high level. At forum socials, for example, while we positively welcome members who are under 18 years of age to attend, we also encourage them to bring an adult with them and also to have on them an emergency contact number. On the Forum itself the names of forum staff, both Admins and Mods, are prominently stated at the top of each page and any of one of them can be contacted at any time in case of any concerns. Regarding the individual involved, obviously everyone has a right to live a normal life after they have served their conviction. However, this person will remain on the Sex Offenders’ Register and as there are lots of members under the age of 18, we do not feel that the Forum is an appropriate place to be and thus we have not accepted his membership application. Through our research, however, we found this particular person, before his conviction, used to be a member of the Forum and was ‘pruned’ after a lengthy period of absence, presumably while he was serving his custodial sentence. His time here was relatively short and he had fewer than 20 posts, several of which were guesses on the quiz. There is no evidence to suggest that he did anything untoward here. While inappropriate behaviour has not been reported to Forum staff, we cannot see the contents of PM messages. Should any member feel that they have anything to report or any other specific safeguarding concerns regarding this or any other member, they are welcome to contact any member of Forum staff or, if appropriate, a relevant authority such as the police. In general we would advise that young people in particular are aware of general internet safety advice. This advice is regularly taught in schools and colleges - for example, not giving out personal information to strangers, having a username which is not related to your real name and not meeting anyone in real life without being accompanied or letting a responsible adult know your intentions in advance. For more information, the Think U Know website has lots of information and advice: www.thinkuknow.co.ukWe thank Forum members in advance for their understanding and equally hope that they understand the reasoning behind the measures that we put in place before accepting new applications. This thread will remain locked but if members have any questions then please contact an Administrator in the first instance.

The forum staff have been made aware that a volunteer from one of London's heritage transport groups has recently been suspended after they were convicted of the sexual assault of a child. The offence occurred away from and is in no way connected with the activities of the group so we do not feel it necessary to name them. Following a review of the information available to us we do not believe the convicted person to currently be nor have ever been a member of this forum, accordingly we don't consider discussion of their identity to be appropriate. The possibility remains that other people may attempt to use District Dave's forum as a means to enable them to commit similar offences, if you are concerned by the actions of any member of this forum please contact one of the administrators directly using the Private Message system. We would like to repeat the advice at the end of our post above about forum meets/socials and about meeting other members. If you have experienced inappropriate behaviour the following specialist organisations offer a variety of support: ChildlineThe NSPCCBrookGeneral advice (applicable to any age or gender) is available here.

The Admin Team would like to thank all those who attended yesterday's social. A wide variety of members travelled from far and wide to discuss their shared appreciation, knowledge and enthusiasm for London's Underground. At the end of the night there was 34p remaining in the drinks "kitty" which has been donated to The Railway Children. We would like to thank all members for their contributions to District Dave's forum over the last year and wish you all a very happy Christmas.

Over time, many threads have been created across the forum with regards to the London Transport Museum's aim of restoring the Q Stock, or simply making reference to these historic trains. These are some examples: Q Stock to run again (Historical section - 19 March 2016) Q Stock Project (Historical section - 13 March 2011) Video with Q Stock (District Line section - 27 April 2008) Q Stock Project (Historical section - 23 October 2005) Chris W has been liaising with the London Transport Museum and Q Stock Project volunteers for some months and has written an extensive feature article that has been published in the September 2017 edition of Rail Express magazine (edition 256). Images captured by Chris W during an Acton Depot visit to meet one of the volunteer teams working on the cars, can be found on his Flickr site HERE. Fancy Getting Involved?Forum members and visiting guests now have the opportunity to get actively involved in the project, assisting the museum complete the work and even gain new skills. The London Transport Museum is seeking to boost the number of volunteers working on the cars, encouraging anyone who might be interested of all backgrounds and experiences, to get in touch. Volunteers would be invited to nominate which aspects of the project they might be able to help with, being assessed and then offered assistance when necessary. An abundance of knowledge and experience exists in the form of former LUL staff, so much guidance will be given to volunteers. There are also others ways that those interested can get involved, for example as part of an oral history project at the museum. The LTM is seeking to interview former LT staff who operated the units, those that maintained them or passengers who may have travelled in them. For information about the London Transport Museum Friends, take a look at their website www.ltmuseumfriends.co.uk. If you are interested in volunteering, email opportunities@ltmuseum.co.uk.

The forum staff are glad to read that members enjoyed the excursion arranged for them on the morning of the Christmas Social; we look forward to seeing the pictures taken in due course!
In particular we wish to thank MoreToJack for being an expert tour guide, seaeagle for taking up the role of back-marker and Rich32 for being an additional licenced member of staff.
This was a unique tour; members should not approach any member of LU staff in an attempt to gain access to the disused areas. The Forum Staff will apply the principles in this thread if necessary.
The Administrators and Moderators would like to take this opportunity to wish members a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Thank you to all members who have expressed an interest in what promises to be an interesting and unique excursion. The forum staff will review all those who have expressed an interest in coming along and send out (by email and PM) some 'joining instructions' and further details of the excursion. We will also contact (by PM) those who have been unsuccessful on this occasion.
Due to the unique nature of the tour it's unclear when the participants will arrive at the Penderel's Oak for the second part of our social; tradition dictates that members officially gather for beverages from 2pm.

Recently a representative of the London Transport Museum joined our membership in order to answer questions and contribute as a regular member. Now on behalf of the membership, the Administrators would like to similarly welcome a representative of the Epping Ongar Railway [EOR]. This individual is firstly and foremost a standard forum member, just like the rest of us, however this person also has the authority to engage the forum to respond to questions or to post in threads in their official capacity as a representative of EOR. Likewise the Administrators know who this representative is and rather than PM'ing this account direct, all topics regarding the Epping Ongar Railway should continue to be posted on the open forum as usual. This person has an official professional capacity and responsibility, with demands upon their time, so please be patient.

The forum Admins are aware that some members who have purchased tickets for Hidden London events (tours of Euston, Down Street and Clapham South stations), however are no longer able to make use of their tickets. On Friday a post was removed that directly sought a buyer for tickets of Hidden London tours. The Administrators do not want the forum to become an informal selling-on site that could be taken advantage of, featuring Underground memorabilia being offered at inflated prices (such posts have been removed in the past). The moment the staff allow any reselling, this sets a precedent that potentially becomes the thin end of the wedge. At worse, members could be fraudulently sold tickets/items that do not exist and besides suspending accounts, the forum staff have no mechanism to assist those who have lost money. Consequently a forum rule exists of: (6g) Advertising an item for sale, or seeking to directly solicit specific item(s) from the forum membership is not permitted on this forum. The posting of links to item (s) already listed with a website designed for the purpose (such as eBay) is fine providing you consult with an Administrator first. The Admins have approached the organiser of the Hidden London tours, the London Transport Museum, to identify how it views the reselling of tickets and what buyers should do. If ticket holders are unable to use the ticket, the LT Museum is happy for tickets to be sold on at a value not greater than the original cost of the ticket. Ticket sellers using eBay or other legitimate reselling sites should therefore use the ' Buy now' feature. Once available for purchase sellers should approach forum staff providing the link to the item you intend to resell so we can confirm that a post may be made on the open forum. New ticket holders should contact the LT Museum on 020 7565 7298, so the name/identity change can be recorded against the ticket - there will be a charge of £1 applied by the Museum.

This forum is a unique environment which London Underground/Transport for London staff, mainline railway staff, railway enthusiasts, writers, journalists and even politicians visit. The manner in which the staff administrate and moderate the forum is intended to ensure that our community builds and continues to be respectful, fair, relevant and interesting for everyone.
On many occasions questions are posed or topics are discussed with regards London Transport Museum and its rolling stock/preserved items. To this end, a senior member of London Transport Museum staff has joined the forum, signing up with the account number 35. This individual is firstly and foremost a standard forum member, just like the rest of us, however this person also has the authority to engage the forum to respond to questions or to post in threads in their official capacity as a representative of London Transport Museum. So that members can appreciate when this representative is engaging the forum wearing their official London Transport Museum hat, they will type in Magenta branding colour of the Museum on these occasions. This person is only able to comment on London Transport Museum matters and not Transport for London issues.
The Administrators know who this senior person is. On behalf of the forum membership, we would like to welcome them into our community.
Rather than PM'ing this account direct, all topics regarding preservation / restoration / conservation and the activities of London Transport Museum should continue to be posted on the open forum as usual, the only difference is that now some threads may have an official London Transport Museum response.
Also be aware that this person has an official professional capacity and responsibility, with demands upon their time. Consequently there may be occasions when there is a delay in any response to posts, which some might view as frustrating, but you will get one.

Ladies & Gents,
Following member feedback the Forum staff have reviewed the Railway Ideas, Proposals and Suggestions area.
As a result it has been decided to trial a move of the area to sit underneath the Members Messroom, thus it will now only be accessible to signed in members.
Furthermore, we have decided to split the area into realistic and non realistic ideas, proposals or suggestions. The idea isn't necessarily to encourage more of either type of subject but rather to help differentiate how a given idea, proposal or suggestion is intended to be treated.
As this is a trial, the changes will be reviewed after 3 Months.
The Forum staff.

Moderators are now able to issue temporary suspensions, initially for a period of up 72 hours (3 days). Although an Admin may become involved sooner, they must review the situation once the maximum 72 hour period has been reached and either grant the Moderator team more time (ie, to carry out investigations in the case of suspicious activity on an account) or step in themselves and take whatever action is deemed appropriate. Although not an exhaustive list, a guide to when a temporary suspension might be used would be: - Suspicious use of an account
- Prevention of spam
- Prevention of a continuing argument between members
- Removal of posting privileges following a failure to adhere to forum staff advice or guidance

A new rule 12b has been added - Approve quarantined posts
(All other staff powers rules have dropped by one letter)
Information regarding Post Quarantine:
A new tool has been added to the Forum Staff's powers; Post Quarantine
There are three scenario's where this may be used:
1) A re-joining member with a previous discipline history 2) A member returning from a suspension 3) At the request of the Moderator team following failure to act upon words of advice
Once a member is placed under post quarantine [by an Administrator], all of their posts will require approval by a Moderator before becoming viewable to the rest of the membership. In all cases, the restriction will only be removed upon the advice of the Moderator team. Details of the reason why a member has been placed under post quarantine will not be made public knowledge.

Following Phil's recent decision to step down as an Administrator at the end of 2013, there are now a couple of more changes to the Administrator staff on the forum: ChrisW to step downChris and his wife (Melanie) are in the process of adopting children and he will therefore be shortly stepping back from his role as Administrator, instead acting as a Consultant for the forum. ChrisW was originally invited to become a Moderator (alongside Phil) immediately after the first District Dave meet back in August 2005 by David Maloney (District Dave), then becomming an Administrator alongside both Colin and Phil in February 2006. He is keen to stress that he is certainly not disappearing, visiting whenever he can and will continue to be the District Dave London Underground Site webmaster – he acknowledges that some updates are needed, which he will undertake when he has a chance. Colin to returnThe Administration team are pleased to announce that Colin has decided to return to the Administrator role with immediate effect. Having been a member since the days of the old Bravenet forum, David Maloney invited Colin to joined the forum staff as a Moderator back in December 2005 and then an Administrator two months later...........until August 2013 when he decided to take a break. Despite recent changes to the Admin Team, Colin's 7 years of experience as an Administrator mean it’s business as usual for the Forum.

IMPORTANT - Forum Rule changes The Forum Admins would like to make all members aware that a new rule has been introduced and another updated: districtdavesforum.co.uk/thread/9141/forum-rulesNew Rule: Section 4 - Behaviour(4d) Any Forum Member who gains (or attempts to gain) unauthorised access to Underground/TfL infrastructure (e.g. non-passenger areas such as train cabs/depots etc.) will have their membership permanently suspended without warning.BackgroundThis forum is a place where railway professionals and enthusiasts can interact. It is the responsibility of forum staff to ensure that this always remains the case and that the trust and respect between both groups remains in place. There have been a couple of incidents recently where non-LU staff have attempted to gain unauthorised access behind the scenes, in particular to driver’s cabs. As far back as March 2009 the Admins made it clear that unauthorised access to the Underground would result in members having their accounts suspended without warning.Using the example of cab rides, Train Operators or Instructor Operators do not have the authority to allow non-LU staff to enter a cab. If they are foolish enough to do so (especially if a video recording of a ride is made), they risk their careers. Please read aslefshrugged’s account of being approached just a few days ago (30 December 2013). We hope that no forum member would be naive enough to behave in this way. If they did and the forum staff allowed them to remain a member, we take the view that the District Dave LU forum would be associated with them and their actions, damaging the reputation of the forum and its membership. In addition we would be thoroughly disrespecting District Dave, the late David Maloney, who created the forum back in early 2005 when he was a District Line Instructor Operator. We believe that the District Dave LU Forum is the premier place on the internet to discuss and enjoy our shared interest about the Underground. We therefore expect members to act reasonably and properly, being aware of the rules and why they are in place. Other Underground internet forums may be happy for their members to act improperly, risking the careers of LU staff, the District Dave LU Forum is not. This issue relates only to a very small hardcore of individuals, who may feel that the rules apply to others, but never to them. The forum staff would therefore ask anyone who attempts to gain unauthorised access to non-passenger areas to reflect upon their activities and approach to the Underground so that their interest or hobby can perhaps be better and more reasonably channelled. Amended Rule: Section 6 - Posting(6g) Advertising an item for sale, or seeking to directly solicit specific item(s) from the forum membership is not permitted on this forum. The posting of links to item (s) already listed with a website designed for the purpose (such as eBay) is fine providing you consult with an Administrator first.BackgroundRecently there were repeated attempts by a new forum member to source an item from members directly within a thread. The staff do not want the forum to be misused, allowing collectors or others who perhaps intend to sell on items for a profit, to source items directly from the membership. Feel free to PM any of the Admins if you would like further clarification regarding the above rule changes, or would like to discuss a specific circumstance. Many thanks. The Administration Team

Phil has taken the difficult decision to step back from being a District Dave LU forum Administrator.
He was invited to join the forum staff by DD himself (David Maloney) in August 2005, immediately after the inaugural District Dave meet. He has been (and remains) a huge supporter of the forum and has dedicated many countless hours behind the scenes so that it has run and operated smoothly.
Phil will remain available to help behind the scenes, so he’s not disappearing completely.
The forum staff (Admins and Mods) would like to publically thank him for his hard work over the years in helping the District Dave LU forum become and remain the premier forum where we can all enjoy discussing London Underground.

David Maloney (aka District Dave) personally invited Colin to become an Administrator back in 2005. After 8 years of dedication, Colin has asked that he be allowed to step back from being an Administrator of the District Dave forum as other commitments have taken up more and more of his time.
On behalf of Dave, who sadly passed away in March 2011, and the whole forum membership, the Admins would like to publicly thank Colin, for his work and vision, which in no small part has helped the forum to evolve.
Colin has kindly offered to help behind the scenes as a Consultant, so in effect this is a step back as opposed to a step away from the District Dave forum.
With four Admins already in place, there are no plans to increase the team currently.
