A few more offerings from the 1920’s starting with a trial run of prototype tube stock from a number of British manufacturers including one designed by the tube engineers themselves. Perfection in Tube Travel tells it all from 1923. Can those that know please tell me what resulted, and who presented the favoured design – or was it a mixture?
1925 commences its offering with The “City” Railway: The new City and South London with a delightful Marian Stanley – daughter of the Chairman – driving the first train of the new service.
This is followed by a historical article featuring Locomotives and Train Working in the Nineteenth Century by E.L. Ahrons. It starts with part two as I have not yet found part one! When I have, I’ll point to it. Interest for the steam buff follows with 2-6-4 Tank Engines, Metropolitan Railway. A bit fuzzy around the gutter I’m afraid but it is a very tightly bound volume.
The new signal cabin at Ealing Common features in the next article with interesting views of the old and new frame.
Last but not least is an extended article covering the opening of the joint Metropolitan and L.N.E.R. branch to Watford with some lovely period views and a detailed description of the extended mutual back-slapping that characterised these auspicious occasions.
