Belatedly, my best wishes for the festive season and for a Happy New Year to all the members and readers of this forum.
Thank you all for visiting and contributing.
On a personal note, my thanks to all the staff - admin and mods - who help this place what it has become; without them all we would not be the place this forum has become.
I know that a few members think 'we' can be heavy handed on occasions but IMHO this approach is what has resulted in this forum being probably the best I visit and contribute to; the quality of discussion is second to none and arguments remain generally reasoned and considered - long may it contine.
But - essentially - give thanks to your Mods and Admins - they are why we continue to grow - thanks guys.

Agreed. IMO this forum is second only to Tubeprune's website as an authoritative source for all things LU on the Internet.
I'd be curious to know if the managerial interest in this forum continues to grow.

As a 2008 newbie I can only applaud all of you who have taken the time to read and answer my sometimes bizarre questions regarding London Transport. The quality of information that I have received this way has been astounding! I entered this site as an outsider from the dreaded main line world. I now feel part of a family. Thank you and a Happy New Year to you all.

2009, a bit like 2008, will see me go on a big diet and lose not very much, drink less, spend more time with my kids on our work-life-drink balance rosters and probably generally do much the same as this year.
Of course, that also includes dropping by here on my way to facepoke or some other site which my wife has seen fit to encourage me to join (to keep young apparently). I have to say though, once you've made your friends and done all your poking or whatever it is you're meant to do, those other sites tend to lose their appeal, so one does tend to find themselves slipping back here to talk about... well in my case... work...!!
Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I subscribe to three on-line fora.....two fly-fishing boards and this one. I often think about tube trains when I'm fly-fishing and conversely, there's something vaguely reminiscent of a well conditioned Grayling coming up to grab a well presented dry-fly when I witness the Central Line surfacing at Stratford. Excuse me, could you refill my glass please.....................hic...... ;D
All the best for 2009 everyone.

2008 was quite an interesting year - new stations, trains (LO class 378), 38TS and Sarah Siddon rail tours or trips. Wonder if 2009 will be as exciting? Woolwich Arsenal extension is to open this month, the LO Stratford platforms 'sometime', both the 2009 Tube Stock and class 378/0 should see passenger service this year too, whilst Blackfriars and the Moorgate CWL branch are to close (the former temporarilly).

the Moorgate CWL branch are to close Did InterCity services ever serve Moorgate(e.g. if Kings Cross or St Pancaras ever had a bottleneck)?

I don't know if they were "Inter-City" services as such, but I seem to remember Class 31s with a few coaches going down the CWL from the GN mainline in the 70s......similar trains also went to Broad St....I don't know where they originated from, though.

Well, as I've been reunited with the rest of my WTT library a couple of hours ago I can help. Met. CWL WTT 243 (6/5/74) Loco hauled trains: 0824, 0837, 0845, 0854, 0906 arrivals into Moorgate were loco hauled; which were the 0729 and 0747 off Hertford North, 0754 ex Welwyn Garden City, 0756 ex Hertford North and the 0820 off Cuffley respectively. Going the other way, 1650 (Hertford), 1700 (Hatfield), 1710 (Welwyn), 1720 (Hatfield), 1732 (Welwyn), 1743 (Hertford), 1753 (Potters Bar). There is a note in TTN 136/74 that the 1700 Moorgate - Hatfield was cancelled due to Eastern Region staff shortages.

The GN electrics would have come in about '77 so it would've been around then.....I must have seen some of the very last ones.

They weren't. They ran the services that the class 313s run now (except they use the Northern City now).

Give me a couple of minutes, I know I've got the May '77 CWL WTT - let me rummage in me boxes for a bit...... Watch this space. Met CWL WTT 264 (8/11/76) and 267 (2/5/77) All LM region multiple units 3 each way each day. I've got a bit of a gap from then, becuase the next one according to the collection catalogue for the CWL is 1963 - Scrap that - I'd made a catalogue error. Nearest I can find with loco hauled working is is Met CWL 252 (5/5/75), virtually the same times as WTT 243. <warning, I've probably said this a lot of times about Met WTTs> You can't work backwards and try to fathom out the WTT numbers, because the Met was a law unto itself as not all four sections (No1, No2, ELL, CWL) in the WTT series were reissued at the same time. There is often a gap between No 1 and No 2 section WTTs that were valid and bound together. I *think* there may have been Autumn/Spring editions each year, but CWL WTTs are not often preserved as they were (at least in the latter years) single sheets, sometimes roneoed. HTH.
