What are the main engineering reasons for the demise of wrap-around windows? Is it purly a missile stopping thing? modern standards of vehicle crashworthiness require structural pillers at the sides and either side of M door. you could fit a wrap around screen but the pillar would fet in the way. That's exactly what's been done on 442's; there's a pillar behind the screen. current issues of magazines - Rail etc, have articles about refurbished 442s.

Do the pillars have at the sides have to be right at the front of the cab, can't you have wrap around windows and then the pillars, instead of the windows going around the pillars?

New control room to be built at Acton Town REW (south east side of the station).

I thought there was designated space somewhere around Bollo Lane? Or have trains nicked it with thier new(ish?) train crew centre?

When we went to the service control "time to talk" it was confirmed that the Piccadilly SCC would be inside Acton Works.

BTW, the '09ts screen is no flat!

But the front would look better than if you had a flat window. I wasn't talking about the driver's view out of the window. Is the driver's view any better on a 442, with the pillar in the way?

Problem with that though is then youre building 106 new trains instead of 93, and then you have an extra 13 from the 95ts above and beyond those needed for spare. How many trains will be required for the Piccadilly service post upgrade?

Well we might get the Train Following Systems extended now but anyone got £8 million to lend the picc line so the rest off the picc line get it not just Boston to T5/T4

I'm sure its been said somewhere that the 73ts replacement is for 92 or 93 trains, which in turn implies that UXB will not go green! It also implies that everyone is screwed if Aldwych is reopened at any point.

Management might think that the Train Following is brilliant, but it keeps doing some very odd things. That'll be nice on a busy desk, when the job's up the wall!
