From the LU website:
The Metropolitan Line has delays occurring in both directions. This will affect journeys from 16:16 on 24/06/05 until further notice. This is due to heavy rain. Message Received: 24/6/2005 4:16:15 PM
They've actually admitted that the heavy rain is causing delays! I'm not saying that rain doesn't cause delays, because as all railmen know, it most certyainly does! But I'm surprised at LU using that as the reason on the website! I thought they employed someone at 55 Broadway to think up Nonsense excuses for delays? ;D

Not strictly underground, but when I was on A/L, I visited my family down in deepest Kent [that beautiful southeastern corner of England], I was on my way back to the capital early one morning, and was told that trains were being delayed doe to: the driver being unable to open the doors due to thick fog. Now, I had to think for a minute or two why fog would affect the doors. I then asked the driver why, and he told me that there is a satellite receiver somewhere, that tells the train when and where to open the doors. This also affects things if the train is too long for the station platforms. Would it not have been better to have a button or switch on the train, like selective door opening [SDO]? I suppose it beats leaves on the line...

Is it any wonder we get the ribbing we do. As for 55 Broadway, I don't think one of the regulars posted that. Look at the time. On a friday. Us operational staff are the only ones at work at that time on a friday.

I visited my family down in deepest Kent [that beautiful southeastern corner of England] I have to agree on Kent, I love it too! My missus wanted a holiday abroad this year and we went to Tenerife - not a scratch on Allhallows and the Romney Marsh where we've been the last 2 years!!!!!

I must admit my journey through the Isle of Thanet and the Medway Towns had some pretty unpleasant characters in, but the nice bits of Kent are really quite beautiful..................as for Essex I've only ever been to Upminster, Grays, Southend and Shoebury on the LTS Line, so don't know if that's a fair reflection on the county. BTW the bit of line between Purfleet and Rainham has to be one of the most disgusting areas in the country...nice view of the Thames estuary and the industry on the other side.....especially in winter on a grim grey afternoon.

Having lived in Essex there are parts of it that are equally as beautiful as Kent. Safrron Walden is nice. Braintree, Chelmsford, Colchester have some nice country close by too.
Having said that you have NO countryside down south that comes anywhere near the Lake District or parts on Northumberland and Durham or even the Peak District for that matter.

Is that the one that features in the opening credits of Emmerdale Farm?

Is that the one that features in the opening credits of Emmerdale Farm? Incorrect Jim. But all Trains from Platform 9 and 3/4s have to trundle over the Viaduct. (now that's a BIG Clue! ;D)

Take a look at www.steamtrain.info/harry.htmThe most recent films have used part of the route on which the Jacobite runs. The scene of "Hogwarts Express" travelling across a viaduct was filmed on the Glenfinnan Viaduct, some 16 miles west of Fort William.

I really can't stand Harry Potter (the actor seems nice enough, just that bloody character), the books and the films. He pi$$es me off so much.
Sorry about that - had to vent some anger against the predictable little freak.

At last - something I can agree with you on!
As it happens, I was on holiday in Fort William about three years ago while they were filming one of the films and we passed 5973 on our way back to Glasgow.
(And no, I didn't volunteer to be Harry's stunt double in case anyone was wondering.)

I think if Harry Potter/Daniel Radcliffe (i think that's his name!) is a point of discussion on a railway forum, then something has gone seriously wrong!

But on the bright side, he did get 12 year old girls taking photos of steam locos. If from that small beginning some of them develop a wider interest in railways and transport is that all bad?

No, probably not. Come to think of it, I know no rail enthusiast who's a girl. I don't know alot, but there are no female posters on here and you never see them with cameras at stations.

I know no rail enthusiast who's a girl. Perhaps you simply don't know the right sort of girls. I've met a few, including one who met the bloke she married in the firebox of a steam loco.

For example, you can get child price tickets on the trains! If you do have an uncanny resemblance to the potty potter, all I can do is offer my condolences!

But on the bright side, he did get 12 year old girls taking photos of steam locos. And thousands of blooming tourists of every nationality taking pictures of that blooming "Platform 9 3/4" sign just outside the WAGN platforms at King's Cross. They all stand taking pictures of each other and get in my way when I'm rushing for my train. And if I see one more tourist laugh and run towards the wall as if they're going to pass through it, they will achieve said ambition on the end of my bag Why couldn't they stick the sign on platform 5 where they filmed the thing. Then they could get in the way of those GNER punters.
