FDCO = Front Door Cut Out. I.e. if a driver overshoots the stopping mark but comes to a stop before this sign then they can "cut-out" the front doors (i.e. prevent them from opening) and passengers can safely board and alight using the other doors on the train. If they pass this sign though then they've gone too far and the second set (at least) of the doors will not be adjacent to the platform (or at least not an operational part of it). I think that drivers can use the FDCO if needed on their own authority, but if they pass this sign then they need to contact the line controller for instruction on what to do next - this will normally be apologise to the passengers and carry on to the next station without opening the doors. In some circumstances they could be told to set-back into the platform but this will be rare due to the time it takes and the consequent disruption.
