Please forgive this if it has been discussed previously. At the West end of the Eastbound platform at King's Cross/St Pancras, there is what appears to be a tunnel merging from the 'North'. Has anyone any idea as to what this is? Was it a link into the Widened Lines or the remnants of a track change.
Many thanks in advance

Also worth reading timbo's blog post here detailing our exclusive tour of the complex last Christmas.

Most of these posts are inaccurate speculation. all anyone who has not studied the history of the area properly has to do is to refer to " Building Londons underground" by Anthony Baddesley-Ellis . This explains it al very thorouhly. The new eastbound platform at K X met was built in the un-used Euston extension of the widened lines with a cnnection at Chalton st: junction. This connection was used as a relief line joining the E B widened lines and was altered to re-join the E B Circle line instead. The "mysterious void " at the west end is merely the continuation for a few yards of the tunnel towards Euston parallel to the Met tunnel before work on it stopped. The west facing curve at York Rd: is the old Maiden lane tunnel which now finishes at a door adjacent to the old Hotel curve junc: on the Thameslink tunnel The top end branches off the York curve around the Caledon st: area. These tunnels are floored with concrete as an emergency walking routr from the old Thameslink station.(exit to platform 0 in the mainline station near the old York Rd. platform.) A member of Thameslink staff very kindly accompanied me on a walk around the complex last year.

Just a correction on the spelling of the author's name, it's "Antony Badsey-Ellis".

There's also a lengthy thread (38 pages) on Facebook been running for a while, as well as another on RMweb on the Prototype discussions page. Sorry I don't have the links to hand, but both have loads of photos of York Way, hotel curve, disused tunnels and more.
