As Summer gives way to Autumn the usual preparations are being implemented on parts of the network that have deciduous occupants.
To avoid "that incident" from recurring, a number of measures are to be implemented on the Piccadilly line this leaf fall season as outlined in the Temporary Timetable Notice (103-17). The following amendments have (inevitably) had some knock-on effects which I will now attempt to summarise.
Amendments to the service are due to take effect between Monday 9th October and Thursday 21st December
Rail Adhesion Trains (RAT's):
As pictures kindly shared by fish7373 show, modified 3-car 1973 stock units will spray sandite on tracks between Cockfosters and Arnos Grove as well as Acton Town, Hatton Cross and Hillingdon during hours of operation including the Night Tube. The tracks west of Ranyers Lane will be shared by the Metropolitan line RAT's.
As a result of units being converted to RAT's, peak services have been slightly reduced in the central area to operate at 23 trains per hour (tph) with a reduced service on the Rayners Lane/Uxbridge branch of 8tph with alternate trains (4tph) operating to/from Uxbridge.
Service Pattern:
Monday-Friday peaks
During the off-peak, Saturdays (day) and Sundays (13:00-18:30, 18pth normally), 21tph will operate in the central area, normal western branch frequencies but
a slightly reduced service between Arnos Grove and Cockfosters with 6tph reversing at Arnos Grove and 15tph operating to/from
Cockfosters.
Night Tube:
Services will operate to the same destinations except alternate Northbound services will terminate at Arnos Grove giving Cockfosters a 20 minute (3tph) service.
As I said, my attempt at a summary for the benefit of those on this forum.

Temporary Speed Restrictions (TSR's) in both directions:
- Cockfosters - Arnos Grove
- Boston Manor - Hounslow West
- North Ealing - South Harrow
These speed restrictions are estimated to add 3-5mins to journeys subject to location and ultimate destination.
