The placement is poor as well - it's no longer possible whilst on platform 3, to see what the next train in platform 1 will be, to allow tactical decisions without having to run dangerously up and down stairs...
today there was a semi fast train on plat 5, the dmi correctly showed it as calling at finchley road and all stations to aldgate. Moments later, it started displaying the stopping pattern of the train on platform 6 which was an all stations train. Think there needs to be better clarity between the two platforms. Thank goodness for the highly informative s stock, or else any non regular would have just boarded the train!
Also surprised the opportunity to have two per platform was not taken, very odd thinking by whoever decided to replace the lightboxes
The display on platform 1 today was showing a new message along the lines of "next Chesham fast in 2 minutes , listen for announcement regarding platform detail". The PA announced next Chesham Fast platform 1. So no doubt many were surprised when the Chesham Fast arrived on platform 3. I could be wrong but I think the train arriving on platform 3 even took the driver who was to take over the train by surprise as I saw a TFL worker go from the front of platform 1!
Apart from Earls Court are there many light boxes still in use?
Earls Court doesn't really have the 1960s light-boxes in the style of those going at HoH, it has 1900s style District Railway ones. others are; Gloucester Road WB pfm.1 (same style as Earls Court), Stepney Green EB, Upney EB, Upton Park WB* and EB, Barons Court WB (Barons Court EB 1930s style) (*=still displays 'METROPOLITAN LINE' although it's been Hammersmith & City since 1991!)
