Does anyone know why the announcements on the 73 stock are sometimes silent/very very quiet. I've been on 4 today and 3 of them had announcements so quiet that you almost had to press your ear next to the speakers to hear anything!
I've not seen this problem on other stock, even the ancient 72 stock.
Does the driver control the volume, and if so why are they turning them down, or is it a widespread technical problem with the speakers?
Very bad for disabled/blind passengers!

Could be a software or speaker problem as driver has no control of the volume

Are you sure? Whenever I have observed the DVA console upon peering into the 'middle cab' from the adjacent car in a 3x3 formation, I have spotted a volume knob situated behind/underneath the housing.

The volume dial is for the driver for when the train radio is in use. The volume for the DVA is controlled by a sensor in the carriage I.e if it detects people speaking or loud noises it is suppose to adjust itself and vice versa for when there is hardly any noise in the carriage then the volume is turned down.

Perhaps the sensors are failing then, as I haven't really noticed a correlation between noise and announcement level. One very quiet late night train yesterday had very loud announcements. Weird
