Just passed Farringdon Thameslink the other day and noticed, there are new train describers in place on the platforms, and this seems to be the case for all the "core" stations on the route. They look like flight departure boards and are very nice indeed.
But my question is, why were the ones prior to these replaced already, i am pretty sure they were not old at all! This must be the 2nd change in about 6 years or something and possible a waste of money to have replaced something which was itself quite new, any reason for this?

The works include new signalling which makes it possible to provide more information in a better format.
