It was very impressive to see during a (false) alarm at Clapham South this afternoon that the train indicator board displayed 'emergency. Leave the station immediately' while the automated announcements were going off.
It's clever how the indicator board (which I thought was interfaced with the signalling system) is also interfaced with the fire alarm. It was quite effective ! Once the next train information disappeared people left, having previously been staring at the board despite the announcements telling us to leave.

On lines where they have a central control system like the Northern, Victoria, Jubilee and Central line the Dot Matrix signs can be remotely programmed to display any message.
