I was in London over the weekend, and I have a couple of questions. One is about the Piccadilly, another is DLR, which I will post separately. I was at Hammersmith and saw two small yellow lights between the central conductor rail and the right hand running rail on the westbound Piccadilly track. Could anyone enlighten me about what they are for?

Indeed, yes, as DistrictSOM says, these flashing yellow lights are part of the signage for a temporary speed restriction (some of which are not actually all that temporary on LU, but anyway). First you will encounter a set of flashing yellow lights - which are obviously to draw your attention. Set back behind the yellow lights will be reflectorised, white on blue numbers placed between the rails which give the speed restriction. These are placed at the start of the speed restriction. So you should know in advance about any temporary speed restrictions imposed on the line. You will come along and see the yellow lights - reminding you. And then you will have the white on blue numbers at the precise start of the speed restriction. The numbers will obviously tell you the speed restriction, although you should already know what that is.
Then, at the end of the speed restriction you get more flashing yellow lights and then, behind them, two white on blue T's which denote the termination of a temporary speed restriction and mark the point at which you can resume full line speed.
