The service has now deteriorated further with two sectional suspensions and also no westbound service between Arnos and Hammersmith. I assume the situation has worsened as we're at shift change time mid afternoon. There'll be complete chaos if there is a repeat tomorrow.

So what is the issue that is causing the objection. The BBC article refers to a door opening, is it a door opening and the pilot light dropping out (which is still serious and shouldn't happen) or was the train op not aware? And also, I guess, how much did said door open; an inch, a foot, a yard or completely?

Door opened between stations and driver lost pilot light. Passengers moved to leading car. Luckily it was early, 05.30am. Train just left Nfds depot apparently.

Disastrous news for commuters, but fully appreciate that the safety of staff and passengers is paramount. I was caught up in this yesterday evening. Waited nearly thirty minutes for an Uxbridge to then be told it was going Northfields and that the line was suspended.

The BBC are saying that there has been both a fleetwide inspection *and* that RMT drivers are refusing to take the trains out on safety grounds. The RMT is alleging a series of issues going back over a year. Also ASLEF drivers refusing to take trains out.

It is a shame that there is no communication from TfL as to the exact reasons and the likelihood of a service operating tomorrow

I rather suspect that line management and / or the MD are in discussions with the Trade Unions to try to get a resolution and confidence around a service running tomorrow. Clearly the press office is talking to the media based on what is coming out on Twitter (especially via Tom Edwards of BBC London). I expect there will be an announcement when there is some confidence about the service to be offered. No point in making a half or false promise - that would do no one any good.

Quite. It would be helpful to know where you stand, especially if travelling early in the morning. Like with the delays/suspensions before Christmas due to train shortages, there was no news as to the general issue, just an instruction to turn up at the station in the morning and see what happens - this frustrates passengers who, otherwise, could plan other routes. It would even be helpful if they'd say that they'd publish news at 10pm or even 5am, rather than wait and see whether the service does or doesn't run at the start of traffic.

On the 96 stock the doors can open a set distance until they are stopped, they are kept closed by air pressure, the moment the doors open 1mm the motors cut out it may be the same on the 73 stock.

If the doors do open to far then the motors do cut out on the 73 stock, you should also lose pilot light and get an audible warning. The cdu should light up telling you which car has the open door

I would say so, under their "in other circumstances, could it have gone terribly wrong?" clause. They were certainly interested in this incident on the Midland Line.

I've seen similar on the 92ts. Some dude not holding on the rails fell on to a single leaf door when the train swerved and the door opened half way every time the train braked. Motors didn't cut out or anything and everyone just ignored it.
