Currently the TfL website shows London Overground has no service between South Acton and Gunnersbury due to a signal failure at South Acton with a good service elsewhere. Are they really reversing at Gunnersbury, without impacting the District? I'd have thought it more likely that LO was suspended Richmond - South Acton with just the District running between Richmond and Gunnersbury?

As the District line provides a service between Richmond and Gunnersbury, technically the LO service isn't suspended between the two.

Still sounds a bit odd. Would they say the Circle line is only suspended between Aldgate and Tower Hill and between Gloucester Road and High Street Ken, on the basis everything else is covered by other lines?

But surly (if it is in fact the case) technically the LO service IS suspended; the District is not.

The east to west move at Gunnersbury is a main line shunt on the London Overground tracks, so it shouldn't really be too disruptive. You can just slot trains into the normal London Overground paths. Admittedly tipping everyone out on the eastbound platform before shunting forward would be a nuisance, but Gunnersbury is a timing point so it's not that unusual to have a little dwell there. And then the shunt back into the westbound is low speed, but it's a low permanent speed restriction over the junction anyway, so it shouldn't be much more disruptive than bringing a train in from South Acton.

But if the District is running what would be the point in running an Overground shuttle between Richmond and Gunnersbury as well? Tipping out at Gunnersbury, for everyone to have to wait for the District train they could have caught at Richmond or Kew gardens anyway, would introduce more delays. It's quite a trek to South Acton - not so far to Chiswick Park, but there's no service there this week.
And unless a 378 happened to be trapped south of Gunnersbury anyway, where would the stock come from?
