Unfortunately I am unable to attend today due to both health and family reasons. Raise a glass on my behalf in memory of our founder.

I was hoping I'd be able to make my way down at some point, but I'm afraid I don't think I'm gonna be able to make it. However, let me just say here (since I cannot raise a glass in person) a huge thank you to District Dave for what he built here. I think the enduring quality of it speaks volumes. I hope everyone who attends enjoys themselves!

We're sat with plateful's of food... we've realised that ChrisM has eaten a large meal every time we've met (evidence supplied by antharro who has video of our first meet in Aug 2005).
Photos will be uploaded in due course ? Thanks antharro for flagging the missing word in my original post

In the spirit of being "down with da kids" I propose that we have a forum thread based on one of those BuzzFeed or similarly irritating list websites - "ChrisM took a picture of himself eating fish and chips at every forum meet for 10 years - you won't BELIEVE what happened next!" !

Thank you to all of you who made it out I had a great afternoon. Thanks to Chris M for the quiz he put together, but most of all a very special thank you to District Dave for allowing us to become part of this amazing forum and the opportunity to make new friends.

Dave... probably without him knowing, created an online community where enthusiasts and railway professionals can meet and mingle... I was proud to be at Earls Court... and The City Barge... today, simply because we had an opportunity to remember him

What a wonderful day I had. I boarded my London train at 9am expecting a quiet morning, this changed at Stafford when three ladies asked to join me at my table. They were in high spirits, looking forward to a day in London; I soon joined their conversation and they offered me a glass of their champagne. I'm not one to refuse a glass of fizz, and it is the only drink you can have before noon! On arrival at Euston I met Chris W who had been taking some pictures of the station. We went to return his visitor pass, only for his eyes to light up at the sight of the Oxblood Leslie Green building on Drummond St/Melton St. Several pictures later we walked to Euston Square, changing at Edgware Road for Earl's Court where Chris signed in and out came the camera. After mistaking a random passenger for a forum member we were joined by antharro, rtt1928, Colin D and finally Chris M. 1230 came and a Richmond train was indicated so we made our way down and sat in the transverse seats in the rear DM. Soon the door closing alarm started, only for Dstock7080 to launch himself through the doors. We travelled to Gunnersbury and then (after checking the map in the ticket hall) walked towards the pub, pausing briefly on the footbridge over the Hounslow-Barnes Bridge line when someone thought they heard a steam whistle. Shortly a pair of Desiros trundled past. Onward to The City Barge where we were joined by Tomcakes and the first parts of the quiz were handed around. Once everyone was settled in with a drink, we raised a toast to Dave, without whom none of us would have been there. The quiz kept us all entertained, as did two recent incident reports relating to S Stock on the district. Highlights included when LU, being unable to move a train, called the Bombardier technician, who when he eventually arrived (after his car broke down en-route) couldn't move the thing either! Also an S7 stuck on the boundary between NR and LU, both of whom said that it wasn't their fault, the solution being to couple to another S7 resulting in two stuck S7s! Finally NR traced a fault in their power supply and things got on the move. Some of us also enjoyed watching a video filmed of that first social, and remarked on the similarities and changes that had occurred. Later in the day we were joined by melikepie and Tom the latter who guessed almost instantly half of the quiz questions that the rest of us had thus far failed to get! A few departed earlier, but by 1800 we decided to all head our separate ways although most of us walked back to Gunnersbury together. The District Line carried us through the setting sun, dispersing us across London as it went. For me, after changing at Victoria I had to sprint from the Vic Line platforms at Euston and across the concourse in order to catch my train north (the perils of Advance tickets). As I ran down the ramp the Guard closed the train doors, I hurled myself through the Guard's open door and we departed right time. I wasn't at the first social with Dave ten years ago, but I'm proud that this forum (as gantshill put, in 2011) his legacy, continues as a place where all those with an interest in the Underground can come together to enjoy sharing and learning about the remarkable railway that runs through our capital.

Glad you lot had a good time & I downed a triple rum & coke at the apposite time to be there in spirit(s)with you.
Very happy to hear you found the ex-station building at Euston. Amazing to think that faience tiling was also in use in Pompeii in AD 76, despite a lack of Tube lines around the Bay of Naples back then.
It's almost is if the Melton Street building still has a spiritual presence, despite now being out of use for a century. May be why you were drawn to it?
I never met Dave, but strongly suspect his spirit was also with you yesterday, because his memory remains alive all the time anybody who knew him remains alive, and is perpetrated every time one of those who did know him tells someone who didn't about him.
Add in the forum and that's some legacy.

When you have children, all the things you were able to do before... fir example, arrive home, download your images, choose the best, edit if necessary and upload to Flickr, goes by the wayside... Some five days after the meet, I've managed to get it all done. My images of the day (starts with Liverpool Street, before moving onto Euston and then Earls Court) can be found on my Flickr site album HEREI hope you like them...

Glad you managed to juxtapose old & new at all three locations-difficult as the Old Euston has left few traces of the old steam-era maze.

Glad that you all had a good time and sorry I couldn't be there. Dave was was probably up there chuckling, as I got stuck on a train on Paris Metro line 12 when the power went off while you guys were in the pub!
