Hello everyone,
Does anyone here know what type of motors the 2009 stock uses? Are they DC or AC motors? I'm guessing they are AC motors, but I have always wondered because to me, it isn't obvious what type of motors they are like on the 1996 stock.
Also, does anybody know why the 2009 stock also has a very high pinched sound to the motors?
Thanks to all

The 1992 stock was the last stock to be fitted with DC motors.

The 1992 stock was the last stock to be fitted with DC motors. Yeah, but the funny thing is that the DC motors of the 1992 stock sound different to those on the 1973 stock on the Piccadilly Line. I'm guessing it is because the motors on the 1992 stock are a more modern type.

I think they only sound noticeably different because of the ways in which the motors are controlled. 92TS use Gate Turn-off Thyristors, which give out a little pulses of current to drive the motor, in a similar way to the class 319, hence the droning noise when they leave the station. 73TS use a camshaft (Rotary pneumatic camshaft I think?) so there is effectively no noise from the control, and just the noise of the motor itself.
