Apologies for the late posting.
On Saturday 13th (and Sunday 14th) April, Acton Depot is holding one of their open weekends.
Forum tradition dictates that the Saturday is one of our regular meets.
For the benefit of members, new and old, we usually meet up for 11am at the depot entrance to introduce ourselves/catch up on gossip and spend a good few hours enjoying all the attractions the depot has to offer. At around 2.30pm we take a short walk up the road to the Red Lion and Pineapple for refreshments and a social. The pub is at 281 High Street, Acton. The pub has been used on previous occasions, and is perfect for good food, drinks and also to allow our younger members to join up as it's child friendly.
New members are particularly welcome and can be assured that 'the usual suspects' will take you under their wing, if need be.
There will of course be a forum meet phone for people to contact each other, details of which will follow at a later time.
Any other thoughts and suggestions are welcome, and a rough idea of who will be attending is always helpful too.

The pub has been used on previous occasions, and is perfect for good food Unless you want custard... As noted in one of the other threads, I'll be joining you in the pub but not for the museum.

Your memory fails you Chris, it's Penderals Oak that doesn't serve custard. The RLAP definitely does, I can personally confirm.

I can't make it on the Saturday I'm afraid, so I won't be able to bring the custard that has served us well the last few meets.

I won't be around this weekend (also missing my first open weekend since joining the Friends) as I'm singing with the Games Maker Choir

I can certainly prepare one, although someone else will need to print it.

It would seem that on close inspection of the myriad of colours on the roster, I will handing out Friends leaflets for the first two hours. This means that you will all have to walk straight past me to get in. Eventually they might work out a way of obviously differentiating members and non members to save us the embarrassment of accidentally preaching to the converted.

I offered myself as a volunteer for the LTM a few years ago and they literally turned me down flat. Ha!

Was that during the time that the museum in Covent Garden was closed? No new volunteers started for a while then as there wouldn't have been much for them to do. The situation has changed completely since then - there is now one full time member of staff whose only job is coordinating the volunteers.

Thread drift - sorry - any more and I'll start a new thread. It was at the end of 2011. I even had to pester Sam Clift for a response to my original email. Was basically just told 'thanks but no thanks' - I'm used to public speaking, etc. and volunteer for London Open House weekends every September. Have things changed there?

For those that haven't spotted it, the contact phone number is posted in the thread in the Member's Messroom area of the forum.
The custard and phone are currently united, though I believe only going to the pub, not the depot.
I am at the pub now. Posted from iPhone
Rich will be there in moments. I'm a little bit behind after having to turn back for home having forgotten the quiz pics that I'd printed off. ColinD is definitely there: he's just phoned. The Forum Custard ® will also be attending.

I'll be there in about 2 hours. Took a lot longer to do what I needed to do than I hoped.
