In several posts elsewhere mention is made that D78 stock has two flag switches. I know that one is the weak field diversion switch: what is the other one and what does it do? Is it some form of acceleration control? MA or someone- please help.

I would like to add, both flags raised whilst on the District is forbidden, is not on the Met or Jubilee, north of Finchley Road if the D stock ever managed to stray that far the 83 stock had the same flag arrangement as the D stock but trains were allowed to have both flags cut in.

Not if you have a motor cut out! It has to be a confirmed motor defect, and the line controller must be informed.

I will let you into a little secret men. When the "D's" were new I had an unofficial driving trip on one with a friend of mine. At Elm Park westbound we put both flags up and off we went. That train damn near took off!! I went as fast as any "A" stock and I had to get hold of her tight to stop at Dagenham East. We tried it again at Becontree and from Barking to East Ham. The latter location put the sh*its into both of us I can tell you. We thought she was going to come off the road! She leaned into the curve like Michael Shumacher at Nurburgring. In all these little tests the needle was just over 60

In all these little tests the needle was just over 60 That doesn't surprise me in the slightest. I've had 53 out of one between Elm pk and DAGE with just the coasting up when I first went over to the District and that was enough to scare the living hell out of me. Our tracks are just not up to it. Wouldn't do it now, although would love to try. As you say, that is one hell of a cant by East Ham Sheds. Although continuous welded rail was laid around 18 months ago, its still a bit rough round there as the old sleepers etc are still in place. I used to love caning it round there before the track was relaid.

Its a shame, as if you could come out of barking in paralell, with the help of the drop down, iam sure it could be quite entertaining! Now i have wanted a visit to the C2C depot for a while, howver i wouldnt particually want to take a D stock and a train load of passengers with me!
