Presumably this means that in EC IMR, it is possible to manually shift the levers - either that or Cromwell Rd SB is still lurking nearby!

Thanks. But how is it actually handworked? There's an isolating cock which turns of the air supply to the manifold at the back of the frame, it's this manifold that supplies the air valves and motors. Once the air is off, it's effectviely a conventional frame. |

well that eventful night i was actually manually clearing the signals which were 11(1) 11(2) 7(1) 7(2) and 10's this failure was due to a defective lever band so the non -safety equpiment (lever operation board) was failing

I'm sure that there was an IMR at the south end of HSK inner rail platform that had a lever frame and I'm also pretty certain I once saw someone working it too. Am I right or is my old brain on the wonk again?

there is a frame at HSK theres also one at triangle sidings glouchester road and these three used to be controlled from the old cromwell road cabin but its been like this now for many years just for some info HSK = 36 levers (3 v styles ), gloucester road = 12 levers (1 v style ) , triangle sidings = 24 levers (2 v styles)
1 v style frame = 12 levers

I understood (in the 1950s) that all those slave cabins were worked from Cromwell Road but the other one (Earls Court West ,West end of WB platform) was manned (Mon to Sat.??) because of signalmen's complaints of too much work.

Mandgc is right. Those slave cabins were worked by Cromwell road. Incidentally When the programme machines were to be introduced someone from a union suggested that the board save the expense and build a manually operated "super cabin" on a raft over the cutting east of Earls Court to control all movements from Turnham green in the west to Mansion House in the east. A second "super cabin" was mooted for a raft over Whitchapel station. to controll all movements east thereof.
Most cabins within these areas were "open as required" with only Upminster/Barking/Whitechapel/Earls Court/West Kensington/Acton Town/Ealing Broadway around the clock. The argument was why go to the expense of machine when "big desks" manually controlled would do the task equally well if not better. Eventually all the locations could then be controlled by the "big desks"
This was of course rejected by the board but judging from Mr Citysigs posts it seems that an awful lot of movement is done by push button anyway with the machines taking second place so they are, in effect, nothing but "big desks" anyway

Last time I was in Earl's Court control room about five years ago, the Earl's Court, High St Ken and Glocester Road area was almost permanently in Push Button Mode.

thats the first site they moan about when something goes wrong with the machines but as long theres a t/d they can still work the site in FCFS (First Come First Serve)

the fake machines are called psudeo (cant spell) machines they take all the information like train numbers and times from the real machines that bring the train into the platform if u looked at aetearlscourt.fotopic.net/p15106346.htmland find the starters thats wot controls them these fake machines but the as far as the signalman is concered they are real i.e he has all the same modes |
