All 8 cars of it? It's not the first time LU trains have gone abroad, but it's a fine tradition. Know any pirate friends Metman? Anyone who could capture the ship on its journey back to blighty? That would be one less train threatening the A-stock ;D Ha ha! I have plenty of friends who are pirates! ;D Must be a huge venue to get the whole lot in! Least there are no 'U' boats to worry about these days

Actually no. Six cars of it have gone on holiday, the M2 cars failed to get their passport applications in on time and so have had to stay at home! ;D

On a slightly off topic note, it may interest you to know that 'S' Stock Train 5 has gone on holiday to Berlin! ;D Trains One to Three are in London, Train Five is in (or en route to) Berlin, where is Train Four?

I assume it was by road although it would have been pretty cool if they'd managed to send it through the channel tunnel and several country's networks!

Train 1 is in London, and trains 2,3 (next train to London), and 4 are at Old Dalby. We now have 8 complete passenger trains with a 9th in production. Pre-series train 1 is in the process of being returned to Derby with pre-series train 2 still in London and on test.

I was there for two days representing LU. It was weird to see what is normally a big train in Underground terms look so small next to massive Loco's and double decker stock!

Pre-series train 1 is in the process of being returned to Derby Ah, that one-way move the other evening from one place to another is explained ;D (Spent ages sifting through the circular and notices to find a return path ;D)

So the 3rd Train that arrived in london is actually Train 1, and Trains 1 and 2 aren't included in the normal numbering series?

On a slightly off topic note, it may interest you to know that 'S' Stock Train 5 has gone on holiday to Berlin! ;D Do you mean train 5 (21007), or production train 5 (21011)? So the 3rd Train that arrived in london is actually Train 1, and Trains 1 and 2 aren't included in the normal numbering series? The S8 numbering seems to be: Train no. Production train no. 'Odd' DM no. 1 N/A 21001 2 N/A 21099 3 1 21003 4 2 21005 5 3 21007 6 4 21009 7 5 21011 Up to: 50 48 21097 Then: 51 49 21101 52 50 21103 Up to: 58 56 21115 With units 21001 - 21055 having de-icing equipment. However, it could be that 21001 and 21099 will have a number in the 'production train' series, in the order they will be delivered for service. This is getting confusing. Wouldn't it be easier to post the 21xxx numbers?

Just to clarify: If I mention Train 1, or Train 2 etc, then I am referring to the production trains as we do not count the two pre-production trains as part of the 'head count'. Just to make it confusing though the pre-production trains are part of the normal numbering series and they will be part of the main S8 fleet eventually (most likely forming trains 57 and 58 to be delivered). Hope this helps.

Will there be pre-production S7s when the time comes or will the testing done on the Met negate the need for them?

Will Pre-production Train One become Train Fifty Seven, and and Pre-production Train Two become Train Fifty Eight? Or is it the other way around? Or has no-one decided yet?
I'm think I'll start calling Pre-Prod One "-1" and Pre Prod' Two "-2" so I know what's where!

The PP trains will have a car removed temporarily for them to be used for most of it. Then they will start the Site Integration testing on S7 routes before going back again to be reconditioned as later S8s as already mentioned.

Then they will start the Site Integration testing on S7 routes before going back again to be reconditioned as later S8s as already mentioned. The type testing process is almost complete for S8 and will be valid for S7. Integration Testing with the PP trains will need to be carried out at every S7 platform.
