I was in a conversation with a gentleman this evening up a belfry deep in the Kent countryside, and we ended up talking about Felthams, conduit trams and Dog Kennel Hill and the like....... one thing lead to another, and a little bit of youtubery produced this: Colour film of Leytonstone in 1938. WS, no sound.

Nice. Toward the end I was expecting a tram to come up out of the water, though!

There was, a few months back, a shortened version of one of the best known, if not the best known, film of London trams on youtube, "the elephant will never forget", but it seems to have been taken down, as it no longer appears on the first page of any search, when typing in "the elephant will never forget". I'm surprised about this because it was probably quite a good incentive for people to go out and buy the DVD that had the full version on, in addition ot other British Transport films.

You are correct Sean. I went out and got the DVD (along with some other ones from BTF and have never been sorry. "The Elephant Will Never Forget" is a great piece of cinematography.

I purchased this film many years ago when it available on super 8 with sound - really must get the DVD now - a brilliant production guaranteed to moisten the eyes of those viewing it. Cheers. Jim Stringer

With regard to the film mentioned by mrfs42, I am of the opinion that some of the footage was shot some years before 1938. For example look at the buses I would have thought that the 'K' or 'S' type open toppers would have been taken off by then, and some of the fashions were more 1920's than 1930's - brilliant film none the less. Cheers. Jim Stringer
