Excellent! All in darkness! Hope the event goes well but it's unfortunate that there will be very few photo opportunities associated with it. A pity I know, but there's always a tunnel station. GPS, Mooragte or Liverpool St anyone? Thought about that, but SSR stations are nowhere near as well-lit as are 'Tube' sections.

I'll second that. I once went to Mangapps Farm, and had a really thick moment whilst getting ready, and thought "I know, I'll wear sandals". My God, the ballast and clambering over all the rails certainly killed my feet. lol! According to the LT Museum website i see that the '38 Stock is now booked to run passenger from Upminster to Ealing Broadway (reversing via HSt. Ken too!). A date of Fri 4 September has been mentioned? Bookings available through Museum again? So, bearing in mind it is nearly five days after the event, will the 1938 stock be kept at Upminster until the run, or will it go back to the Depot before then? Logic would suggest the former, but I dare say that those of you in the know will explain whether this is practical or not, and why.

The 1938 stock will stable in Upminster Depot until it returns on the Friday.

As your last image shows though (S stock mock up in the lifting shed), although the R stock was initially in the lifting shed, it and the Q stock were nowhere to be seen last night - I can only assume they've been moved to the new sheds (deep clean/wheel lathe area).
The S stock mock up does look rather small inside the lifting shed though, probably not helped by it sitting on the deck! ;D ;D

I believe the Q35 and R49 Stock would be located in the cleaning shed to allow access to the interior from the platform height walkways in there. The 38TS 4 car unit would be located on 31 road within the main shed with steps provided to gain access from the floor of the shed. The interior of all these vehicles would also be illuminated in one way or another. Looking forward to seeing four compartment coach No.100, on loan from the Kent & East Sussex Railway. It's history though seems to be a bit of a mystery. I believe this coach could also be located in the cleaning shed as the intention is to show a historic progression of rolling stock.

I had word today that the C stock train will be going to Upminster on Thursday morning. They said it should be leaving Hammersmith at 11.00 ish and arriving at Upminster at 13.00 ish - can anyone else be more accurate about those times as I dont want to outstay my welcome at Elm Park station. I would advise trying to photgraph it at a station between Upney and Upminster Bridge. Just a cautionary note to those wishing to take pictures, please read our guidance thread HEREAlso the LU journey planner gives an arrival time of c1215.

Anyone heard anymore about the return run by the 38TS from the Upminster Open Weekend with passengers on board, on the evening of 4th September?
All that the LT Museum site has on it, is that more details with timings and presumably ticket purchase options is that these will be available later.

The 1938 was delivered safely to Upminster this evening. Anyone heard anymore about the return run by the 38TS from the Upminster Open Weekend with passengers on board, on the evening of 4th September? All that the LT Museum site has on it, is that more details with timings and presumably ticket purchase options is that these will be available later. The planned departure time from Upminster Platform 5 on 4/9 is 19.52 running to High Street Kensington and thence to Ealing Broadway. (With some stand time booked in Whitechapel pl4) Talk seems to be the ticket sales will be made at Upminster depot open day. However I don't think that is certain yet.

Why has running the 1938 stock in darkness suddenly become so popular with the people who decide these things?

Having received the volunteer briefing details from the museum, it appears that there will be no cloakroom facilities as there usually are at Acton. There is no mention on what, if any, policy will be applied regarding large bags (and bear in mind that the museum definition of large usually includes anything larger than a handbag).

Warning for those travelling in the forum group on Saturday
My oyster registered over £14!!!
It seems the gates at UPM were playing up so in my case
1. It charged me £4.40 for entry as I EXITED Upm, and 2. It failed to register my entry at all in the afternoon resulting in another excess fare.
BTW can someone tell me if using Oyster on c2c it still counts towards a LU day card - i.e. should it have been capped as for zone B and if so what at??

Note to forum staff - if you want members to reply, you should unlock the thread!! Anyway, did you use the readers on the platform, then the gates? c2c is effectively just another LU line between Fenchurch Street & Upminster - so the LU fare structure applies

Whilst Upminster might not be as big as Neasden, it is pretty big - much of it was cordoned off and that spoilt it a little for me as I couldn't show my friends everything I wanted to.
Even so, something is better than nothing - particularly if you wouldn't normally get access to a depot.

Following up my oyster post, I've now had an email from TfL stating there was an 'operational fault' and offering me a (correct) refund. Fair do's.

I went on Sunday and thought it was excellent, and a real credit to anyone involved.
The last time I got to look round an Underground depot was West Ruislip in 1990. Have I been really slack in not finding out about open days, or are they simply few and far between?

This one was billed as 'the first 'open to the public', operational LU Depot, since 1993', so I don't think you have missed too much! ;D

What about Golders Green depot a couple years back?
Out of interest was the West Ruislip 1990 open day the one where you were allowed to drive the train under supervision for 50 yards? Or am I thinking of something else?
