Ok I understand now It's just that all the other websites I use allow 800 width x 600 height and when I saw 800px in the rules I assumed it was the same, but apparently not. Sorry for the confusion

very nice to see the 38 stock out again
see the photos here
LINK WILL APPEAR HERE SOON
but i feel i have to make a point about preservation and railtours
for a country that invented the wheel, invented the railway and invented the worlds first underground railway i find it very dissapointing that all we have preseved for railtours is the 38 stock, sarah siddons and the 1960 stock train
i have to say now that i have given up on going to depot open days at Acton because (esp after they stopped freedom pass holders getting free) i got so fed up of seeing just single cars of each train like the 83 ts, 86 ts ,R stock not even moving
in my opinion we should have been so pround of our engineering achivments that some effort shoud have been made at the time to preserve at least one unit of each stock before they went on the scrap heap. Its very dissapointing to think that ill never be able to ride a 83, 86, or R stock train because only single cars have been kept. If we had whole trains preserved i think that would have said much more about pride in our underground network than just single cars going nowhere.
and i know that some of you will say that storage is a problem, which i do understand, but perhaps some sort of underground depot could have been constructed for preserved railtour trains.
so my message is this, there will be many more trains to be replaced in the future so efforts should be made now to start preseving some whole trains before its too late

When discussing resolutions in computer terms, the rule of thumb is usually height followed by width!! So our rules are 800 high by 500 wide to fit a screen 1024 high by 768 wide. The standard rule is width x height - otherwise the 1024 x 768 would be a portrait screen! In 25 years of programming I've not come across anyone describing as height x width. The mnemonic of x times y is 'x is a cross, wise up'.

I forgot to say in my previous post a big 'thank you' to all the people who helped organise today, including the people supervising and driving the train itself. I had a very enjoyable morning. Thanks again

If one set of each stock or locomotive had been saved since the railways first came about, you'd need a depot a lot larger than West Ruislip. I mean, yes it would have been nice for me to experience F Stock, Q Stock and even Standard Stock, perhaps even the CSLR locomotives; I would have LOVED to have seen and heard them working. Unfortunately preserving things such as these was not thought of back then; London Transport and its predecessors were interested in one thing; Moving Poeple.

Well, in all fairness, the 38 stock has just been poodling over one of the busiest metros in the world. Wonder if the way forward forward would be to have a museum line as per Woluwe in Brussels? Or, my pet subject, a mule car that has all the computers/sensors etc needed to allow the computers to see whatever is running.
I was at the do today with MRFS42 and Angelislington, breifly saw mordendepot and spotted one other forum member wearing a surprising tie...

Yes sorry for the brief meeting, as you know, I had to dash off to do the second trip! The Piccadilly run was good as well.
Thanks to AI, MRFS and Ducatisti and [+1] for being welcoming.

I have received PM's on this too - it would indeed appear I require a JCB for the size of hole I've dug My sincere apologies to all for any confusion caused. All I would say in defence is that the admins had set the width as 500 pixels with the best of intentions, but it would appear that the time has come to take another look at that and perhaps reconsider our position.

As well as the 4 cars of Q stock that are in the process of being restored, it is eventually planned to restore at least 4 cars of standard stock, which are already stored at Acton. The limiting factor is, as always, money.

Surely the problem is the new signalling? The 38TS will be barred from the Northern Line come soon (Plus the Jubilee, Central, Victoria already?). Who is gonna pay to deal with this? It's not just signal stuff, but getting on-board equipment (compressors, MG's) immumised against this too.

If the 38ts IS modernised to travel on ATO lines, will it still be the 38ts we all know and love, albeit with modern additions, or will it be seen as fakery?

There is already at least one modern addition (the whistle), but nobody seems to worry about it.
Attitudes towards heritage stock have now changed sufficiently that a way will be found to deal with the problem of ATO (or more specifically ATP). It is likely to be the same as whatever is done to stock such as the battery locos.
More details can probably be found in the vast Q Stock restoration plan. There would be no point proceeding with full restoration if it wasn't ever allowed out of the depot.

ADMIN recapping on the pic size issue Rule , the one in question, refers only to images EMBEDDED in a post in one of our threads. This is to stop the pages distorting (in the same way overlong URLs are also discouraged). Our rules have never had a size limit on LINKED pics: that would be impossible in most cases anyway. I agree that any linked pic over 1024x768 would be annoying to look at, but be assured that linked pics can be any (sensible) size. And to make it clear, as BrianA60K says, we are talking about 800 width x 500 height.Glad we've sorted that one out - both Colin and I got rather confused earlier
