My signals/P Way knowledge is miniscule compared to some people on here...however....I was wondering why there is an Interlocking machine room on the N/B at Old St. I always have associated [wrongly??] IMR's with crossovers. Surely this IMR doesnt control the crossover at Moorgate....or does it?
Any replies gratefully received.

There isn't an IMR at Old Street - unless a) it is a secret one or b) it was put there in connection with possiby putting a crossover in during the tunnel relining works.

There isn't one as far as I'm aware.

Right, will put my head on the proverbial chopping block.....its on the N/B, near the headwall, even the door plate proclaims it as an IMR.

Check what room code it has - IMR's are always x/706.

Well its platform level, so it should be 4/706, will have a peep next time I go through. Could IMR stand for anything else?

Check what room code it has - IMR's are always x/706. Though this often holds true, I wouldn't rely on it:- The building at the north end of the platform at Hendon Central is X/706, and that isn't an IMR - though it may well have been part of the former signal cabin? And Mornington Crescent IMR is 5/711, which is a code more normally associated with a RR. Looking at the plans for the northbound platform at Old Street, the only rooms I can identify are switch rooms and one room which I believe contains the DMI equipment. Perhaps the original poster can be more specific about the location of this room?

Despite the plate could it be a C.E.R. (Communications Equipment Room) ? Just a thought.
The former siding south of Old Street went when the line was reconstructed in the 1920s, as did those north of Elephant & Castle and immediately south of London Bridge. At London Bridge, however, an emergency crossover survived operationally until December 1994. The siding at Angel survived until January 1959.

Had a look last night [Didnt catch the door number though] there are two doors right at the N/B headwall, the second one from the H/wall has an IMR plate on the door.

This is described as the CER on the station plan.

This is described as the CER on the station plan. Isn't CER the modern day equivalent to an IMR? AFAIK the Central line has all CERs in place of the old IMRs now.
